Hi Alan,

I have similar issues with my car. It is very nervous and very camber sensitive. It appears to have a pull to the left as well, still present after multiple geometry checks (or is it just displaying camber sensitivity and I'm being paranoid - I'm not
100 % sure).

My dealer said "they all do that" also. I suspect, as Dave says, it is just a feature of the car.

How long until you get used to it, Dave? I'm still waiting!

Steve.

P.S. JGriff and Dave, what tyres are you using?

I've owned my new STI7 now for about a month and a half, and in general am very happy with it. I do have a question for other STI7 owners out there:

How is the steering/handling on your STI7? I find mine to be a bit "nervous" on the road, follows the road camber a lot and easily gets tugged from side to side by bumps. I know that the suspension setup was quite hard, but even so I didn't expect it to be quite as bad as it is. I mentioned this to the dealer at my 1000 mile service and got the standard "they all do that sir". If I had a pound for every time...

Anyway, any feedback would be appreciated.

They all do that sir....

Seriously, it's a combination of the tyres and the Suretrac front diff. You'll get used to it

JG
<blush> - thanks

Steve
I've done 50,000 miles in Astra GSE/GSI's - i'm used to it - and, I have to say, it doesn't really bother me!

Carolyn's car on 7,000 miles, mine on 3500, both still on RE040's - but mine will be on Toyo's or F1's this week

Oh yes, and JG's car is much more settled than mine, but my Prodrive springs are imminent.....

IMHO I think the Sti7's suspension is just to unsettled. When doing, err, over legal speeds on the A2 near me, my car almost leaves the road. My previous MY99 handled things a lot better, that why i've having my suspension changed on Thursday.

I am awaiting feedback from the guys and girls on here on the forthcoming Prodrive springs with the standard dampers.

Gareth.

Thanks for the comments. I hope you're right, and that I'll get used to it. I do find it's particularly bad under heavy braking - I get thrown about all over the place! It's such a laugh to drive though it's difficult to complain!

I'd be interested to hear what people think about the Prodrive springs too. And of course the PPP (but probably less said about that the better)...

Sideways,

I don't think you need the BSM for the MY01 cars onwards as Subaru took it out but I'm @ Powerstation on Sat so will report the difference proper Geometry setup will make.

Judging by the difference it made to my MY00 (which at 1000 miles was wayout but within factory tollerances ), I'm looking forward to a transformed car on Saturday afternoon

As my STi currently feels a bit "wrong" (and if deffo pulls to the left a little), I'm certain PS will be making improvments with the Geom alone, but I'm expecting further gains from the ALK and rear ARB, drop links, mounts and bushes

Sideways
Depending on how accurately each individual car was set up at the factory, checking the geometry *may* help.

Bump steer is not such an issue on the MY01> as the rack was relocated so the steering arms are more parallel to the ground under braking anyway.

P.S. Don't listen to Dave T-S when it comes to handling issues - he just drives around them rather than try to fix the problem

Cross posted with Matt.

I learned to drive in an Austin A30 in 1971 and have driven some real sh1tboxes over the years, so have always tended to drive round their faults
