Came across Valvolene Turbo V oil 15/50 but very cheap @ £13 for 5 litres. Says its specifically for Japanese turbo cars.
Any comments on whether it is Ok or worse than cooking oil?
I only need it for top ups between services so its not going to be the major oil in the car.

Question

Never heard of the stuff?
I take it that its a mineral oil for that price and not fully synthetic??

A big company in the U.S. Valvoline make good stuff. I've used Synpower 5/50 fully synthetic a lot and it's fine at a very sensible price- under £20 for 4litres.

Ive used it,its a standard mineral oil sold under turbo v name,so dont be fooled in paying more because it says good for turbo car, most oils say that these days.

Unhappy

Would stick to fully synthetic oil over mineral oil for a turbo'd car IMHO

I' ve been using it for a long time now, no probs at all, good temperatures, overall I am happy. My mechanic prepares rally cars and uses this oil for them, so it's got to be good. It's not always that more expensive is better. Perhaps the lower price reflects the fact that the oil is not a fully synthetic one.

It mentions being a "premium blend" but doesn't state what whether it's mineral or synthetic.

Hmm, I'll just use it as a top up as I only use about 1 litre between services and let Subaru put their stuff in.

Just use Motul 15w50 fully synth, if its good for the rally cars then its going to be good for yours

"only use about 1 litre between services"??? That sounds like quite a lot given that the total oil capacity is 4.5 litres. Leaking nearly 1/4 of your oil between services? My car uses no oil between services.
