According to my MY00 Turbo handbook, when cold, the oil level should be at the second hole (and F mark) on the dipstick...after today's service the level is above the 'expansion' mark someway above the F mark..is this too high ?...this is now the 2nd service where it's been overfilled... :-( anyone know what the correct level should really be ????

top hole when cold, notch in the side of the dipstick when hot. Any above that is bad.

Cheers

After my last service the oil is just above the 'L' hole at cold. Is that OK?

not really no.

if you overfill these engines the boost control solonoid gets bunged up with sludge and screws up the boost levels on your engine. This can cause overboosting leading to fuel cut.

It's marginal on the full hole to be honest, best results are at 3/4 full.

oh bugger, i read that as above the H hole?

if its just above the L it's not got enough in, aim for 3/4 as a good level. measure this after the engine has been shutoff overnight.

The dealers here in Switzerland usually overfill with oil. They seem to think more is better. I always bring my own oil (Mobile 5W-50) and have even brought the correct amount - 4.5L and still have had problems with overfilling!!!??? (I now go to a dealer that doesn't have these problems.) I change the oil myself between services and always put in exactly 4.5L and the level reaches exactly the full hole. The oil should only reach the expansion mark if the car has been driven VERY hard in extremly hot weather. The only explanations for the oil to be overfilled are: 1. More than 4.5L put in.
2. The oil filter has not been replaced and 4.5L have been put in.
3. The mechanic forgot he had put the oil in and put some more in after his break for good measure.
Do not overfill with oil on this car!!!

I would complain to the dealer and have him pump it out.

Good luck!

Just enquired with my Dealer who reckons just above the 'L' is OK. They have always been spot on with everything in the past...?
