Hello All....

Just wanting to know peoples thoughts on getting Gas fitted to a scooby??

I realise there has been a few posts regarding this subject previously but I am intending to have this fitted very shorty so would appreciate anybody's thoughts also experiences if you already have this fitted!!!

How well do you think it will work on the Impreza??

Do you think the downsides will outway the good points??

Any other mods will need to doing to run Gas properly??

Cheers

In Advance

Wink

I think getting a bigger turbo will save you more money
But.....
NOS can only be run for a max of 7 secs, much longer and your going to damage your engine.
To me, Nos on a turbo'd car is pretty much a waste of time, yes it gives you better burn etc but id rather have something i know is reliable and to me NOS isnt, and how many long term cars do you see running NOS? not many i suspect..... (new engines are expensive )

NOS has some advantages re. cooling etc I heard.
Could also be useful in getting rid of lag if you have a bigger turbo.
I think you can run it longer than 7s, not sure though. Also depends on how big a "shot" you use etc.
I am personally interested in it as I think it may facilitate overtaking a Porsche Turbo rapidly when you are at around 220 km/h.
What I am wondering is this: where the hell can you get the bottle refilled once its empty? NOS is not common in France...

NOS has to be run for reasonabily short bursts, otherwise it will freeze seeze your motor until it heats back up.

This seems a pretty good place to do some reading. The wizard also answers any questions you may have on the forum section and it looks like he checks it regularly enough.

Why dont you become a dealer of NOS then claudius

Just a thought, i dont want to send you off on some sort of rant, but sieze the opportunity in this market and sell NOS to the French

That could actually be a good idea!

But I read that site the URL to which P1fanatic provided, and it doesnt sound as good as I thought. Check out my question on their forum and let me know what you think

Read your questions, not too happy with the answers. Perhaps if you tell them what car it could be for, then maybe a more specific answer will be provided.

I think they are on about the"dry" systems similar to what david wallis has in his FMIC thread. These have two solenoids, one for nos and one for fuel. So i suppose you could say its like having a 5th injector for the fuel???

I have NOS fitted to my KA (don't you dare laugh!!), the kits from Highpower are very good and, the kit will come with a T-piece to go into the fuel line or if you have a tyre-valve like vent on the fuel rail you can use this.

In my experience of NOS, its for pose points really, you're much better off spending money on power you can use all the time not for a limited time. The kit will also have to be setup for your car, the fuel jet on mine is one size smaller than the nitrous because my rally cam is providing then engine with extra fuel.

I run 50BHP jets on the KA (KAs are 60bhp standard), I can only use nitrous for a few seconds in each gear because I've nearly doubled the BHP with NOS alone, it revs very quickly. I have a progressive controller which gives me half the power to start with then you can set it to build up to 100% over 2-10 seconds, the kit has a main arming switch and a switch under the throttle pedal to activate the solenoids, you could setup the kit so it suits the way you want to use it, you could have it coming in at 75% throttle with a controller so you get a nice progressive increase in power or if you know a bit about electronics you could activate it at say 20% throttle and de-activate it at 60% throttle to help any turbo lag and even spray some in front of the intercooler too

As far as refilling goes, you won't find many places that will do it but Linde Gas UK will sell supply you with gas that you can store are your home. I would recommend getting your own bottle unless you live very close to someone that sells it as you're going to run out of it quickly

Before installing NO2 I would recommend streanthening the bottom end. NO2 will cause your engine revs to rise considerably. Without uprating the bottom end you will start going through big end shells like they are going out of fashion. It is also prudent not to use NO2 at too low revs as this will cause undue acceleration on the crank and cause terminal damage. Try to not use it till you are over the 4500 mark.

The best place to get NO2 refils is BOC. They have branches everywhere (Including the continent) The cost of a refil depend on the size of your cylinder.

Also make sure that you get a guarded switch (A bit like the ones on jet fighter wepons systems) as the last thing you want is to hit it by mistake and stuff your motor into somethingnot going as fast as you or not moving at all.

Hope this helps.

Hmm, yeah, their answer was directed at a standard car with lots of safety margins where it doesnt matter. I just made it clear to them that the safety margin was non-existant! Let's see what they say...

P20, have you worked out how much that stuff costs per second of push? Seriously, £3 a lbs doesnt sound like too much if you use it reasonably. Erm, how long can you run it for then? 15s? 20?

Bobfrog

My gf has a Ka as well You gave me an idea there: test and see if I can install it right before I put it in mine MUAHAHAHA!

No its not that expensive if you use it sensibly, the trouble is you dont. I swore i would use it sensibly on my 106gti, but when you can induce wheelspin in 3rd in the dry and wheelspin in 4th, your 21 years old and pulling away from an M3 you dont want to turn it off, that is untill the engine goes bang, which mine did.

I used a whole tank in one outing of about 30 miles.

I would say try and get it linked into the ecu or some sort of computer controlled action, as if its left to a manual switch, you will have big problems turning it off.

BTW i was running 150BHP jets ontop of 170BHP from the engine

Yes forged conrods and uprated conrod bolts are a must, because they are the main weak point of the motor.

WTF are they on

Is it me or do they like one praising one another on that bbs.

Suruely if you treated it as a 5th injector similar to your existing injectors then you could work out what fuel you would need if they where working at max. Then from there you could find out what size fuel pump you need.

Thank you for your quick reply.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you what grade I require. However, you may be able to determine that from my application: I would like to purchase a small container of nitrous oxyde to refill the nitrous oxide injection system in my car. I use nitrous oxide to increase the amount of oxygen going into the engine.

Supply from the UK would be fine.

Thank you for your help

Claudius

Thank you for reply. Unfortunately BOC cannot supply Nitrous Oxide for that application. There is a company in London who may be able to help called Customville but I only have a telephone number for them: 44 (0)208 590 1441.
