Unhappy

My Subaru Dealer has told me that one of my GTB turbos is leaking oil, and replacement would cost £1200.

Does anyone know whether these units can be repaired, or knows of a cheaper way of getting grey import parts?

Mark from what I understand there is different turbo combinations for different models/updates/variations. Not aware of problems(more power would be a good one)that would occur if the wrong turbo was used to replace your shagged one. Would probably pay to get an exact match. How did your turbo get shagged? Which turbo is it and how much boost were you running?

Sorry but not strong technically. All I know is that my Subaru dealer told me that the turbo whines and there's an oil leak and probably should be replaced. It's the n/s one which I believe is the secondary unit. The car is a mark 2 legacy, 1998, 100,000 miles.

I have since spoken to a very helpful bloke from Import Car Parts who was surprised at this diagnosis, as oil leak could be due to a simple washer or tube, and a true oil leak can only be checked by removing the exhaust. He suggests doing nothing as oil leak is minor, and he's never come across one that leaks.

I can only put it down to the fact that my Subaru dealer has only recently started looking at GTBs, and maybe don't really know them too well.

Will get a second opinion from a local specialist - Simpsons.

Thanks for everyone's help,

Mark
