What oil should i use????
#1
Im taking my scoob (STI 6 Type r V-LTD) for a service and was told by the dealer that the use UNIPART semi-synthetic on their cars. I havent heard many reviews on this oil so im wondering what oil i should tell them to use and what garde.
I have been told that Mobil 1 Motorsport fully synthetic 15W-40 is good stuff. Has anyone used it? Is it any good?
What other oil is good for the scoob engine.

The best oils that have been recommended on this bbs by the top techies are, Motul 300V 15W/50, Catrol RS 10W/60 and Mobil 1 Motorsports 15W/50. They are all fully synthetic.
The Motul gave the best oil pressure in a test conducted by one fellow on here on a track. He compared it to the Castrol and the Mobil and it gave more oil pressure. The Castrol came second.
I use the Castrol on mine cos I have been using it from my first oil change and I don't like to change brands. However I'd go for the Motul if different oil had been used in my scoob before.
Cheers,
Wrexy.

I use Motul competition 15w 50..... in my WRX 02
The engine sounds sweet with this oil!
Thinner oils are not recomended for scoobs and even with 5w 50 mine sounded a bit tappy!
the only negative that I have found with the thicker oil is the engine tends to pickup just a touch slower....
But for piece of mind I'll stick with the Motul!

Magnatec over here (Switzerland)
Is now fully synthetic says so on the box.....
Although I know it used to be semi!
It's the same story in France...
So why hasn't it changed in England yet? or has it?

I think as long as you run a decent manufacturer of Fully synthetic oil your car will be ok
Its going to take race type conditions all the time for the oil to break down that quickly so any of the above mentioned oils will be good for your car
Its personal choice in the end so stick with what you like best, so long as its fully synthetic

Don't be misled by the "it is synthetic so it is ok to use" routine from people that really havn't been told what oil is all about. Firstly on a turbo charged engine you need an oil that is ester based. This will not degrade in the same way as a "normal" synthetic hydro-carbon based oil in high temperature allpications. Secondly very "thin" oils like 0W50 is going to be bad news in the long run. Almost every engine tuner/builder will (or should) recommend using a 15W50 or 10W50 at the "thinnest".
You might have to search around for an ester based oil but Silkolene Turbolene GTI (I think the brand name has now changed to Pro R 15W50 now) is one of the better ones out there. I believe that some of the Motul oils are ester based also. Demon Twonks stock a good range with the last 5ltr can of Silkolene costing me about £25.
Anyway have a look at this link for a bit of info

Not meaning to repeat myself again but as my initial mail says "I use 76 Nascar"
So hopefully that answers your question.
I dont have anything else to compare it to , as it is the only use I have used since getting the car a couple of months ago.
Never liked using Mobile 1 as I didnt like the 0 rating.
I use to religiouly use Castrol RS which was a 10 rating.
So far so good for the 76 Nascar.
Its what Option in Japan have been using exclusively, so I am pretty confident with it.
As JB has mentioned though any fully synthetic with the correct ratings and codings should be OK.
