While paying for my Optimax in the services today I noticed that Shell Helix Ultra (as specified by IM through the dealers) has changed from 5W30 to 5W40.

So, this begs the question - do IM recommend 5W30 fully synthetic as per the manual, or stick with Helix Ultra whatever the grade?

5/30 is too thin, Go for a synthetic 15/50 like Motul, or Mobil 1 Motorsport.
