Default Cleaning up an Intercooler

Just wondered if anyone has used anything to clean up an STI intercooler that worked well. Something good with aluminium. Thanks

Jay, do you mean the inside or the outside?

Inside I've washed out with petrol, followed by soapy water.

Outside, i've not had much success. The end tanks can be polished up with some wire wool / steel brush etc, but the fins are very fragile.

My eventual plan is to polish up the end tanks and then paint the front of the IC core, using a roller so that I don't get paint down the gaps. Might need to use some kind of acid to get rid of the aluminium corrosion first on the front too, maybe.

for inside you can use petrol and brake cleaner,

outside you can use condenser cleaner chemicals, once you spray it, it will foam then wash

i used that cleaner for heater radiator

Outside. It's got a light corroded look, like all alloy items go. Other option is to respray. Like I've done with my other one. But prefer to clean it.
