Default New WRX owner,,centre diff and gearbox bearings??

Hi guys I'm the new owner of a late 06 plate blob, great car in all ways, but I've noticed a slight whine at around 60 mph, had it to dealer who said it was centre diff and gearbox bearings, now I'm panicking it's gonna fall to bits,do these parts come on here much second hand as I've noticed centre diffs are £££, someone reassure me lol.

Hi Neil

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like the rear diff. to me. I thought there was an issue with my car at first, but found out through some other threads that it's quite common. Does the sound go away when you lift off the throttle? Is the sound present at any other time?

Rik

Hi there thanks for the reply, tbh I don't even notice the noise locally, it's only when I'm on say an long straight road doing about 80 that I notice it, it wasnt really a problem until the car went into the dealer for a recall and I mentioned to them to check it out, fourty pound later that's what they came back with, but they didn't even road test it, then said it would be two grand to fix!.

Don't ask a dealer, ask a recommended independent specialist. It's pretty normal to hear some drive train whine, but an independent will double check that it's nothing to worry about. Or post a sound clip up here.
