I've got this idea for connecting my iPAQ to the select monitor port and writing the software to do data logging and real-time graphic displays.

Would this be an interesting project to do? How many of you out there would be up interested in this if i start writing the code?

The iPaq is an ideal device for this, it's cheap, colour display and easy to program.

Me too! Apart from using it for a universal remote control aka Philips Pronto ;-)

Looking at the H/W at the moment. I have a schematic for a TTL level convertor.

Not sure what connectors on the ECU.

Any help people? I have an MY01 + PPP. Anybody know what the connector is on the back of this before i start taking my car apart.

If it's done properly, it should work with any ECU configuration.

I was planning to use different .dll for the low-level stuff depending on the ECU you need to log from. Then have a standard GUI for displaying data.

As i say, at the momemt i'm collating information.

I can help you with the connectors, but don't know the pin-outs on the ECU.

pdawin.com. $14 well cheap!!

Works a treat. Can even use the .ccf files for a pronto.

I've ordered the iR extender CF card too, although discovered on saturday that the iPAQ reaches nearly 4m across room to TV/DVD equipment.

I will do the low-level device stuff in C++ for low-latency. No need to go to arm assembler as we're talking at rs-232 speeds and the iPAQ uart is pretty damned quick anyway.

All the GUI will be in wonderful VB. Have all the tools, and a number of laptops to do the development. Just need the info. people.

Don't know if they are any help. People that have already done this have been working on the MY99/MY00 cars.

Edited to add this link to the ECU wiring diagram http://lillith.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/~kas...ar/ecu_mon.pdf

Nope, going to butcher a standard serial iPAQ cable.

What just use the cradle to provide the connection and then connect via a 9 pin D Socket?

You can buy a standard serial cable for them, rather than using the cradle.
