I have just posted another thread in which I changed the diff housing bearings to sort out my gearbox whine. As pointed out on that thread, I had access to a ramp for the day from RampHigher to decided to try and tackle some rust.
I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Not as bad as a previous Scooby I had, but not pretty either. The worst of it was found when I took the bumpers off. On the rear two brackets under the lights needed replacing, and on the front the crash support member was pretty bad. Luckily, the body panel and rear arches + wings are completely rust free:
Halfway through the front member job, this had been cleaned down with a wire brush, treated, and then painted with specialist metal paint:
I didn't capture too many pictures of this process as it was such a messy job. Step one was to remove the rust with a wire brush on a drill attachment and flap disc on an angle grinder. We then treated the rust and applied paint / underseal:
After:
All in all, a very messy, horrible job but it should help keep the underside from rusting further.
Next step will be to refurbish the wheels and get some new rubber!
