Scottish Weather & RUST. Help needed...
#1
Hi Folks,
I could use some help. I've got rust in two places on my MY94 and no garage for the winter. In other words I'm expecting deterioration and I want to get it sorted.
#1. Blistering around sunroof - under rubber.
#2. Between spoiler and rear window (5 dr)
Question: Has anybody else had either of these problems? If so - what did you do? Did the fix last?
Any advise gratefully received. Anyone know a good inexpensive body shop in the Edinburgh area?
FYI - one dealer told me it would cost 350 pounds to fix #2 alone - apparently the rear window has to be smashed out and replaced. I guess a replacement tailgate from a breakers would be cheaper than that.... (in black though?)
Thanks
MattT

Hi Matt
Was the rust caused by all the steam leaking from the radiator?
Seriously, it sounds like you only have a surface rust problem, which shouldn't be too hard to fix.
The rust under the sunroof seal, if its not visable, could probabily be treated with a rust treatment, which usually turn black when they set. You could even try smooth, black hammerite!
Is the rust on the back between the lower spoiler & window? This might be harder to treat without a rub down and respray. Although it would be worth investigating what caused it in the first place. Wiper or washer?
Get yourself around to Colin's Auto Repairs in South Queensferry for a quote!
Best regards,
Mark
PS: Isn't the body & paint warranty six years?

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the useful advice. 'Colins Auto Repairs' is indeed a fine establishment but this time I fear I need to spend some money!
The rust-stop stuff (turns rust black) isn't entirely convincing from my experience. I think I need a proper body shop to do the biz (at a reasonable price).
Mungo - the email addresses are a bit of a giveaway. I work for Agilent. Why do you ask?
Anymore useful advice out there???
