Default boot lock woes

Hi All,

Bought a boot lid to replace mine which has been bitten by the tin worm. Wasn't until I got it home that I realised my old boot lock is a small circle and the hole for the lock on the new boot lid is a much bigger rectangle. I've had a search around and seen that other people have cut to go the other way (putting a square lock onto a lid with a small round hole) but I'm not sure what the best solution would be for my situation.

I've had a quick look on ebay but I can't find anyone selling the boot lock without a full lock set (and many with ECU). Open to any suggestions, preferably without spending too much on it.

Thanks,

John

I never use the boot lock, why not just blank it. You have the remote release. Anytime I have gone to use the boot lock it was seized due to winter salt

Thanks for the reply. The thought had crossed my mind. Annoyingly at the moment my boot release doesn't work. Not the little catch issue (I've suffered that in the past) but the cable seems to be stretched, too long to sufficiently pull the release catch. I need to investigate this before blanking it is possible.

Maybe someone can confirm that, but I think it may be possible to get your lock cylinder transferred from the circular to the rectangular lock surround. I'd try that first as it's the cheapest option and you don't end up needing separate keys for ignition and boot lock.

You can order a replacement lock from Subaru but then you'll have an extra key.

Edit: On second thought, if you can't get the lock surround easily maybe just try get the correct bootlid and sell this one on.
