Default How does the boot release work?

I've changed my boot lid, and have since lost the use of the internal boot release elver. I know all about the cancelling lever on the lock its self, its not that thats not working.
FThe lever is not broken, and I can open the boot from the inside, when I'm in there (bit of a tight squeeze! )
I just can't, for the life of me work, out how the boot release cable release's anything on the bootlid lock itself.

Any explanations or pic's would be most welcome.
