Default Which side is what on the engine?

Hiya all, im going to fit a new cam cover oil seal to my car soon and just wanted to make sure that i order the correct side I want. Its leaking from the drivers side/ turbo side cam cover, im guessing this it the right hand side and the passenger/battery side is the left?

cheers for the help.

Cheers buddy. I thought it was but just wanted to make sure. Am I right in thinking that I use 3 Bond sealant aswell as the rubber seal?

You don't need 3 bond for cam covers! A new gasket seal kit inc seal bolts will do

use 1215 grey 3 bond as subaru recommend. there are specific bonding points they also recommend. also do not overtighten the shoulder bolts! the heads are soft and if you strip the threads you will have a big job on your hands! also be sparing with the 3 bond, i had a mechanic i know and trust do mine the first time and he made a pigs ear of it and it still leaked and he just splattered more sealant on it and i then took it to a specialist who couldnt believe the mess and showed me when the cover was off, it was everywhere! in the cams and everything.

also a pic of the half moons and where they are. one of mine was cracked and was contributing to the leak i had so were replaced but they can be cleaned and inspected and if not damaged can be re used.

Cheers Yabbadoo4, thats really helpful and much appreciated mate. Im guessing that the half-moons are rubber seals too? And that they also require some 3 bond to them?

they are actually plastic or a bakelite type of compound and quite hard/brittle. one of mine was chipped and was letting oil seep out. they also need sealing as well yes.

RCM sell solid half moons, also Rich at http://www.fbtuning.co.uk/ will be stocking similar minus the RCM tax soon. He really needs to update his website though.

Ignore Busta, you need to use 3bond as instructed.

Ok but check twice that you have the right part as when i bought my seal i was told that there were two types for the 97/98 impreza and managed to get the correct one for my v4 car with help from the supplier.

Yeah it looks pretty complicated to get the correct ones for each year. Looks like mine is a V3 by the looks of it. Ill have to double check though. Cheers buddy.

Well I've finally got it done now. Started about 11am today and finished around 4pm ish. It wasn't that bad really, just so bloody tight for space in there it makes undoing and tightening everything alot longer. Hopefully it will be sorted now. Gonna leave it alone for now while the 3 bond sets.
Feels great to know that I done it though

Nice one
For future reference,a ratchet spanner saves lots of time

edit: no matter how long it takes,,if you fix yourself it feels sooooo much better
