Engine tapping noise?
Hi Guy's
Started my engine up today and have a tapping noise, seems to be coming from belt tensioner area, but sounds quite bad.
When revved it comes and goes and when completely warm seemed to be almost gone.
Any ideas?
Cheers Dave.

1 exhaust leak and when it's warming up it's sealing ? 2 the revving overcoming the noise you are hearing , 3 is oil level ok and fairly fresh not too thick oil for tappets and miles covered , 4 piston slap as above not uncommon but once it warms up it's fine so from what i've read piston slap not classed as an issue , 5 when was cambelt last done a tensioner maybe but i would expect all the time

Noisy injector
Using thin oil 5/30 instead of 10/40 causing pistonslap

Yeah they can make drone noise which is normal.
I've seen it before when the water pump impeller had been damaged by some debris in the system and it was making a taping noise that was increasing and decreasing with engine speed.
If the coolant or engine hasn't been touched recently then this is less likely because I suspect the root cause of the above was someone having dropped a small piece of something in the coolant system - but I couldn't really prove it. It's not impossible that other debris was already in there, say from the casting or similar.

I have taken off the air-con belt and noise has gone, so it's either the air-con belt tensioner pulley, which i have ordered and a new belt which i will fit and hope it's ok, if not, then it's the air-con pulley.
Either way, i'll know soon enough.
Cheers for the input
Regards Dave.
