Default intermittent staring fault

Hi, need some help please,

my 96 wrx has a starting fault as in when its cold or been stood for more than a day it wont crank, the starter motor just clicks like the starter is nakard, I have to turn the key to crank position several times before it finally cranks the engine, once the engine is warm it starts perfectly fine.

starter is brand new as is battery so its not them, ive cleaned the leads to battery and starter motor so its not them either,

any advice please?

Thanks

Is it possible that something is draining your battery?

No mate battery voltage is fine, its almost like the engine has seized and a few clanks from the starter is enough to dislodge it, once its done that its fine all day until I leave it to stand again overnight

wierd right

You say you've cleaned the battery lead terminals, have you also cleaned the grounding points on the chassis and block?

Hmmm very strange.
does sound like something might be draining the battery tho.
Have you tested the amp draw and not just the voltage of the battery?

There's battery voltage at the starter solenoid when key turned mate it just won't turn the engine until it's clank ed a few times lol

Ah so you have to hit/clank the starter for it to start?
I read it as in your 1st post that you have to turn the key to crank position several times before it finally cranks.

Which could be a faulty relay or starter switch.
If you have to hit the starter motor before it will crank then sounds like a sticking solenoid, but you said that's new,so is a strange one.

Fuel pump maybe? Maybe you need to build pressure before it starts? But if you have to hit the starter maybe you should buy one off th breakers on here and try that first.

It doesn't turn over full stop mate plus the fuel pump is new anyway... I don't have to hit it, the solenoid slamming into place is enough to turn the engine over after 3-6 attempts

Nope...its getting battery voltage to starter solenoid when key turned.. solenoid then engages (CLONK) but the starter will not turn the flywheel... After doing this several times it will eventually turn the flywheel and start straight up... only when cold or been stood for 24+ hours

Once started the car is fine all day

Was just a thought as I've heard people mention on here,if the oil is too thick and with the cold weather that it can cause cold start problems.

Lol very naughty, personally I would give it a service then at least you know it's done and done right.
