Replace engine on my WRX STI WR1
Can anyone advise me my Subaru Impreza WRX STI WR 1 engine overheated & I was told it needs replaced
I want to do the best regarding what is needed is it okay to use a reconditioned engine or better to buy a new one?
I have no intentions of selling my WR1 I have had it since new & want to keep the car
Any advise would be greatly appreciated

If its over heated I would expect you would only need to change headgaskets not the complete engine, who advised you that it needs a new engine?

I will explain I am no mechanic but this is what happend in December
A water hose came off & I kept an eye on temp gauge dropped off at garage the mechanic was puzzled how the hose blew off so was I but in saying that he replaced hose but the engine was back firing & running rough he did a diagnostic & it said the
Fuel injectors was needing replaced & he will get some second hand ones to replace which he did the engine was still miss firing so he then thought to replace the ignition coil sourced a second hand one but it still is miss firing he then advised the engine has probably been cooked & will need replaced that's when I put up a request for help
Does any of the above help on what I need to do?
I love my WR 1 just want it back

Sounds like the head gasket has blown and blew a hose off with the pressure hence the missfire, dont run it but take it to someone that knows what they are doing most likley just need the 2 heads done the bottem end will be fine.
I was told this is why it's probably not the head gasket?& Mechanic thinks it's piston rings

Low on 2 and 4 will be the gasket blown on that side, coolant will have pressurised and blew the hose off
You need a new mechanic mate he is clutching at straws, as said take it somewhere that knows what that are doing.

A slight warning on just doing head gaskets the bottom end can often fail after , the extra heat and strain when heads go can cause problems , I wish I knew this when my hg went as less than a year later the bottom end went it would have been cheaper and more peace of mind doing it in one go , when hg went no sign of bottom end issues
Cyl compression is far higher than any coolant system tester can put up that's why
Compression can leak past a poor head gasket into the coolant causing your hose to blow off
But when tested at 2 bar the leak into the cyl won't show up there's simply not enough pressure
The sniff test referred to above looks for exhaust gasses in the coolant
or even just watching for bubbles in the header tAnk when idling
Being a turbo compression goes even higher when on boost
If you drove it to your garage with the hose off chances are you overheated it
The temp gauge relies on the water temp to read
No water means your gauge will not work properly no matter how hot it gets
By the way you need a new mechanic I wouldn't let that lad sweep the floor in my garage
