Default Subaru Cosworths needing rebuilds?!? (any Cosworth owners in here?)

Hi there people, this is my first post.

I have been looking into buying a Subaru Cosworth and after inquiring about one I have learned that this particular car has had a rebuild.

After speaking to Subaru themselves they have warned me that the Cosworths need even more frequent servicing than the normal Subaru's and this is confirming to me that these cars suffer from some serious problems.

I already own a 2009 WRX STi hatch and have had engine issues also and was hoping to upgrade to the Cosworth with the hope that I could solve these issues with something that would have potentially had a more reliable engine.

I have already had a good read into one of the forums too see if any of the other owners have had many issues but didn't seem to find too much info. The dealer I spoke to had said that the Cosworths are famous for these engine problems with many of them needing rebuilds.

Is there any Cosworth owners that can verify this and give me an idea of their experiences. One of the Cosworths I was interested in, Cosworth no. 2 has already had a rebuild.

Thanks for any help

Baz

Just because you use Cosworth bits doesn't make it indestructible. Better to buy a package in consultation with both your mapper and bank manager

Suit your mods to a budjet and both mapper and builder and banker agree on.

I understand that nothing is indestructible and it was the Subaru Cosworth car I was going to buy, not Cosworth mods. Cheers

Just have your hatchback rebuilt ,, my 09 hatch has had a forged build is running 500bhp without any problems and there isn't one cosworth part on my car , so don't get hung up on the brand name just get someone who knows what there doing to build it for you and you will be fine

If you're looking closer to home (you're listed as London) then Len at Subaru 4 You (in Newbury) built my Hatch engine which made 370/410 with just an induction kit, decat and a fuel pump.

Mine has done 19,000 miles to date. I have however owned the car since it had about 15 miles on the ODO.

Not a single issue with the engine but I have changed the oil and had it serviced as and when it should have.

I have had 2 Cosworth Hatch engines in with piston issues, they were early conversion ones, & I know Cosworth did try varying piston clearances over the run of builds.
