Default gaitor for 6 speed in classic

Just wondering what others have done for gear gaitor in facelift classic. I have all the other gubins but its going to be a while till i fit it due to other jobs so wondering if its straight fit or get gaitor from newage and if so do you need surround? Pics would be nice if possible. Thanks.

Removed the rubber gaitor years ago as not fit for purpose...or a £22,000 car!

The present leather one has been in use with a 5-speed and now a 6-speed box.

Not the best picture but this is an OEM gaitor with a slight mod (involved cutting a bit of the stitching and then folding the top bit over)

Many thanks for pictures looks good fitment, any probs with them becomming dislodged?

Secondary question which i should really of researched first, hows the through? if fitting from scratch would you be tempted with lower height stalk?

theres a lot of slack in linkage compared to my 5spd one so a set of alyns bushes i think will be a must.

No problems with becoming dislodged.
Do you mean throw? It feels a lot better than the 5 speed,no increase or decrease in distance although I've not paid that much attention to that just feels the same.
The feel of the gearchange is far superior but most 5 speeds at this age would need to be rebuilt/repaired
Stalk height for me is perfect.

Replacing bushes on the Classic is a must as I've done a whole lot of them and they bring back the tight feel the car should have.

I'd not change my 6-speed feel at all, height, throw etc.

My car had a rubber gaitor from new

I removed it, the spring "one use" clips that held it to the surround were no good after that, so the new leather one had the lower stitching removed and the hem folded out. It was then held in place, marked and pierced (with a hot skewer) where the clips would be. Once slipped over the plastic pegs, small squares of 2mm styrene with the same hole in them were slipped over the peg and "welded" with "Plastic Weld" solvent from a model shop.

The whole thing cost under £8. It has a press stud fastening at the top to enable it to go over the ****...even the press stud is red.

The gearchange on my six-speed is FAR better than in my son's Megane R26 F1...and that's supposed to be rated.

Fit as is with some uprated bushes and its perfect, mine does not feel like a soggy noodle the way the 5 speed did. It is like a rifle bolt action now
