rear end clunking on blob sti ??
Hi every one recently bought a blob eye sti few weeks ago and seems to be a clunking sound coming from the boot area as soon as you pull off and when you get over about 5 mph it's gone.
It feels like the drive shaft or prop shaft is rubbing or loose
Been reading threads about a rear end noise and most people are pointing at shocks
Any one had this issue or the shock issue does it sound like my problem?
Any help would be good
Thanks

Well I've had a few clunk click noises from my Impreza's that I've owned over the years.
One thing I know is that it's hard to diagnose through a forum.
Rear shock tends to knocking noise constantly over bumps.
Drive shaft end nuts tend to come loose over time on the rear. They make a loud click when you move forward or backwards from standstill.
Aftermarket pads tend to move in the brembos callipers when your first brake going forward or backwards. They make a clunk all round the car.
Roll bar links also make a click noise.
Get someone to drive your car while you sit in the back and listen to where the noise Is coming from.

Interesting read this.
I have been facing the same issue so I set about diagnosing it the other week. I started by stripping all the brembos down and giving them a good clean ect. There were no seized pistons and all the pads were spot on.
I moved on the hubs and worked my way up. found out the shocks were fine. Next weekend I will set about the Diff and shaft.
Keep you posted when I find anything.

Thanks in turbo I will have a propaganda look on the weekend see if I can actually find out where the noise is coming from.
Flash ash I know how u feel. I was reading about the different and people say is more of a whin that comes out of then poss could be something to do with prop when it meets the diff maybey if theres a rubber mount of some sort
My brother hade a similar problem on his 2005 m3 it turned out to be a worn prop shaft dounat I think that's what it was called lol
Tbh I hope it's the shocks might be a good excuse to get coilover s

Whine noise can also be transmitted through the outrigger bush bracket.
Worth checking these while your under the car. After straightening them out all my diff whine stopped.
Check this thread.

So been at my friends workshop this morning for a few hours trying to find out the issue and problem has been found.
Put the car up on the ramp and looked aver all bushes and droplings sway bar ect ect . To find that all was in order apart from a lot of surface rust. But I'm guessing was to be expected from a 12 year old car.
So then after no luck drop the car to take a look at the suspention and pulled up the rubber covers on the struts looking for leaks or and there was non.
Next I sat I'm the boot while my mate drove the car very slow to hear and pin point area of the noise while gitting in and out while the car was at a stand still the noise could be heard so bounced the car down with my hands and could hear the clunk/bang from drivers side rear shock.
Sounds like it bottoms out so guessing no oil in it. And must make the car shudder/ bounce at very low speeds.
So I'm glad in a way it was the suspention and not anything else
I'm 99% sure that's my problem.
Seen a few videos on d I y fix by putting oil in it. No debating on doing that or just upgrading to coilover.
