Default Prodrive Sports Cat to fit WRX

Hi,

Just bought a Prodrive Sports cat, and getting it fitted later this week.

I have read somewhere that it may require modifying to fit a WRX. Can anybody explain what needs doing.

sometimes there is a divider between the wastegate port and the exhaust port on the downpipe. On some cars this split needs trimmed a little so that the downpipe will mate up to the turbo properly.

Can't find a pic of a PPP one but it will be something like this:

the wedge sticks out to separate the exhaust flow from the main turbo exit and the wastegate exit.

Its the earlier PPP sports cat i have. It was missing the heat blanket off it, so i have wrapped it with titanium wrap.

Was holding out to try and get hold of a Japspeed sports cat, but they are still on a minimum 8 week lead time. And my existing cat having a small hole somewhere underneath the heatshield, thought this would be the best replacement option.

I have cut 5mm off the pipe that would go into the turbo housing, to be on the safe side. Getting fitted tomorrow, so will let you know.

How did you you get on with this? I'm thinking of fitting a Prodrive cat to my hawkeye wrx and then doing a second cat delete. (Assuming I can source one) how much did you pay for your sports cat if you dont mind me asking so I know not to over pay for one

I have the one one on the top pic and the divider need to be set upon with a angle grinder, mate it up without the gasket and you see the gap it will bottom out on the TD 04 turbo and if you have a 4 mm gap grind about 6 mm off it.

I have that sports cat a prodrive y pipe, green panel filter, ngk 7 heat plugs and no second cat and straight through to a prodrive back box, it made 282bhp and 350lbs of torque @ about 1.2 bar, makes a swift road car no need to go over 5,750rpm. Pulls well from 2,750 to 5,750.

I ended up selling the part as it did not mate up to the 2nd decat pipe. I suspect that i needed a 2nd decat pipe from a bugeye/blobeye.

Bought a Cobra Sports Cat system to replace it. Just waiting on getting it remapped to see the results.

The prodrive cat i had was the slightly earlier version with the external heat-shield that looks like this:

I did as suggested and took a couple of mm of prodrive cat to ensure fitment to the wrx turbo housing. The guys at the garage said it fitted ok, howver the turbo heat-shield needed slightly modifying as the wastegate pipe was fouling the shield.

The problems arrose when attempting to connect back to the exhaust system. I had previously had fitted a Cobra 2nd de-cat pipe:

This 2nd decat pipe did not match up to the prodrive cat, as it was too long and the angle of the flanges was different.

I believe i needed a 2nd decat pipe for a 2001-2005 car like this:

It is shorter in length and the flange doesn't angle upwards like the one to fit a hawkeye.

Ahh I see thanks for the info. So if I get a bug / blob prodrive cat I need the 01-05 second decat pipe, if I get one from a Hawkeye prodrive then I need the 06-07 second decat. Does the later Hawkeye cats have that centre divider and the earlier ones have that circle part that sticks out?

Thats right fella. Hawkeyes have longer de-cat and shorter sports cat. As long as the de-cat and sports cat are from the same year it'll be fine. I've got a bug and the missus has a hawk, when its dry i'll try and get a pic

Cheers mate, I have just bought a Prodrive cat from a member on here, it is from a newage (pre hawk) PPP STI. So now I just need to find a suitable second decat. I'm going to guess anything that states it will fit 01-05 cars will do fine

that's right, or if you can't find one your local exhaust shop should be able to hook you up for a few coins. They can cut out the existing rear cat and replace with straight pipe.
