Default Turbo Help

I want to fit a larger turbo to my V4 UK to hopefully achieve 300-320bhp, I know I need a new ECU (what is a good one to choose?) and what will I need to get to have this gain? (which turbo, injectors etc?)

ESL ecu and get it mapped by Duncan.

Yellow injectors : Phase 1.5 is yours. Phase 2 injectors can be installed using this adaptor kit. Also you can get them nismo 555's which they use in nissans . they are like the Phase 2 and should work.

Decat/sports cat and any STI top mount intercooler will do just fine. But saying that I got to your benchmark using my standard V4 intercooler. However I would not recommend it at all. I myself will be upgrading it soon.

Turbo VF35 or VF28/29 will do . but V35 would be the best i would say. maybe some TD05's not sure about them and i heard they are laggy.

Fuel Pump
wait till Darrel from ScoobyWorkx puts that offers up for his fuel pumps. then get his SWRD 290 LPH for a good price.

that's about all i got on mine to get there. No fuel pressure regulator and other non-sense.

The same front entry TD04L as the MY97/98 non-JDM cars - i.e. the same as what you already have (assuming yours is indeed a MY98 UK car?).

Your best turbo, VFM-wise, would be the V.5/6 STi's VF28. Should be able to get a good one for around 200 quid, spools up quick (roller bearing, I think) and should make 320bhp easy. Or if you can get it for similar money, then go for the venerable VF35.

Personally, after 'upgrading' my STi 5 to a 20g some years ago, I do actually really miss the VF28's low-mid range's 'on road' response. It was addictive.

I suppose all of this depends on budget really. Not wanting to spend too much you can buy a TD05 for around £50 and fit new seals and bearings to it for longevity, then fit phase 1/1.5 440cc injectors which means you don't have to spend on adapters for the phase 2 style injectors (unless you really want to go larger). I don't see why a 255lph pump wouldn't do the job for 320bhp which again will save more cash over the 290lph pump. The only drawback with the TD05 is that it will need converted to front entry. Not difficult to do, but you will need someone who can weld aluminium to complete the job. I personally have ESL (cost around £500), a TD05 (converted and rebuilt, total cost £80), phase 1/1.5 440cc injectors (cost £40), SWRD 255 pump (cost £45 I think), front intercooler (already fitted), full decat (already fitted) etc. I'd like to think this will easily make 320bhp.

as above, depends on budget. Right supporting mods and it will run 340 for years, my old car did 7 years and 30k miles at 340bhp.

MAF may be an issue on an upgraded turbo though, they are pretty fragile on classics, mine blew 3 during mapping before we said enough is enough and put an autronics in it.

My current type R has now got a syvecs in to get rid of the MAF totaly

Good point! I should have mentioned that I'm going MAFless too, can be done with ESL with the addition of an intake air temperature sensor, only about £20.

I must check with Andy about that one, I thought the MAF sensor was removed as the IAT sensor has to be wired to the MAF sensor plug.
