Default How to get oil round engine after standing............

Hi guys,

I have FINALLY got round to fitting the replacement engine in my 1998 Sti Type R.

I bought a used, forged engine off a SN member (so I hope its all ok).

Thing is, I didnt realise until the other day that it has been drained of oil - and has been sat standing for 12 months!!!

So, Im now worried that all the internals will be pretty dry!!!

So, how can I get oil around the engine to lubricate it enough, before I start the car (which will surely damage it)???

Please help!!!!

Thanks

Disconnect the crank sensor (it's directly inline with the crank pulley - on top and towards the front of the engine block).

Then it will prime under starter-motor power only (as the disconnected crank sensor means you won't get spark and fuel).

Do a few bursts of, say, no more than 20secs a time on the starter - till the oil pressure light goes out.

Ideally you'd want to remove spark plugs iirc.

As above, remove plugs, squirt some oil down the bores and turn it by hand a few turns.

Then the usual cranking it on the starter with CPS disconnetecd.

Oil stays on bearings for ages. I had a Ford V6 stood for 12month with no sump on...it was STILL dripping oil when I eventually got round to putting it back together (I removed a few big end caps to inspect them for wear).

Oil in bores yeah: first place that'll rust is the bores, so a little oil in there won't do any harm...it will smoke a bit on start up for a few mins though .

Hand crank...spanner on the crank pulley, or a socket and a flex-head ratchet.

Thanks guys

But how can I easily check the timing - I didnt assemble the engine, just fitted it complete?

Im also reading another thread about heads, and now worried in case the heads on this engine are not as good as my original type R v4 heads?
