Unhappy terrible clutch noises - Help please!

Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, Admin remove and let me know if the case. I have had a problem for about 1 year with my clutch, which I believe to be the clutch release bearing, but it has now got worse and my idle control when putting the clutch down is basically stalling the car.

The clutch has made a high whirling noise when released (why I believe it to be the release bearing at fault) but now it is a very loud and very high pitched noise (almost like a scream) when pressing the clutch down and it is a little juddery when down, but the car runs fine when in gear and none of the gears slip or grind when putting in gear. I thought it might be the idle control valve making the idle go weird but not sure if anyone else has had similar issues.

My Impreza is a 2006 hawk 2.0l R Sport (Non Turbo)

Any help is much appreciated. meant to be driving to London (200 Mile trip) to get a full service and MOT done, but want to be safe and not breakdown or anything.

Sounds like the bearing is seizing up hence the noise. Cant you have the service and Mot gone a bit closer ? The whole clutch assembly could probably do with being changed ,not just the bearing. It would be a false economy anyway as if the bearings that worn, the rest isnt far behind

the father is doing it all, used to live with him, only been in Manchester nearly a year and never really needed to take the car to a garage as most of the work I can do myself so don't know any recommended garages around bury / Radcliffe area, I did take it to a garage around here when I first came up for the noise but they said is was the gearbox, which was a load of **** coz I know it wouldn't be that. and since not really trusted any garages around here coz of it. I moved here for work, so not really socialised around the area much either, so not really looked at any recommended garages.

just to give an update / resolution, clutch went yesterday completely, clutch, pressure plates and release bearing seized and broke. My advice to all which slight clutch sweek when releasing the clutch, get it fixed... sooner rather then later, I have luckily not damaged my flywheel, price for my car with it being non turbo was £420 for full clutch kit and fitting up in Radcliffe (Near Manchester) flywheel would have been another 200-300 for the part alone.
Don't make the same mistake I did.
