Default leaking boot on blobeye...........

there is a large amount of water getting into my boot and im quite concerned

its dripping here

more worrying is where its getting in,where that white gunk is its seeping under there

what would have caused water to get in there?

im guessing its gonna need grinding back, rust treating then a line of weld to re-seal it then a lick of paint and same underneath

whats a good product to prevent/kill rust?

The spoiler bolt holes, rear light seals and rubber seal are the usual culprits. Looking at yours im guessing the boot spoiler ?? mine also had a slight leak here, i loosened all the nuts on the spoiler and put silicone on all threads and bolt holes and re-tightened and has been leak free since..

Hi mate,

I had this problem on a Blob and it was the rear windscreen that needed re-sealing, in fact it got removed and re-placed. Mine was leaking in exactly the same place, but not as bad.
David from API did a decent job on this, you could ask him.
Otherwise it will be around the rear lights.
Good luck matew, its annoying ,

If that is the case then a bit of silicone sealer should fix it in the short term and keep your boot dry until you can get it cleaned up and sealed with proper seam sealer.

Im not too sure on that front mate. If its purely just surface rust then just clean it up and apply a sealer. If its beyond that then someone else would be better to advise as ive never had much joy with such products and the rust usually comes back at some point.

If u pm me you address i will sent you some adhesive putty tabs that are used for sealing any such water gaps in panels and closures. If their good enough for a 100K range rover should be ok on a scooby lol

Have you ever removed your spoiler to check the condition of the boot underneath ?? When i purchased my current car it had rust showing along the edge of the boot lid where it meets the spoiler. When i removed the spoiler the rust was fairly bad over quite a large area. Ive replaced it with another one but this was already showing the early signs so only a matter of time before it gets worse. It appears water sits between the two.

Try and get on top of it mate ASAP,as with all this cold and damp weather that we've been having lately the rust will run riot on your boot.SJ.
