Fuel Pump Install, help!
Hi, and thanks in advance for any assistance.
03 WRX, trying to replace the fuel pump.
So i have:
1. Removed the cover and can see the top of the tank.
2. Disconnected the electrics
Now i'm stuck!
Two of the pipes are held on with spring clips (rubber pipe)
The third pipe (feed?) is connected to a plastic L shaped fitting that uses a built in clip mechanism to connect to the tank and the other end appears to be push fit into a pipe that disappears to the other side of the car.
Note, the push fit end is relatively loose (as in it feels like it could be pulled off...??)
Problem!
The 'L' shaped fitting is 'f#cked' and wont release at the tank end ! (looks like a previous owner had had a go at it).
Subaru!
They say the L shaped clip comes with the pipe, cant be split, is best part of £100 and requires the whole tank to be dropped to install! Nice!
Fix!
Any help would be appreciated....

That orange piece stays on the pipe, why do you wwant to take it off?
From what I can see in your pic it doesn't look broken to me. Push the black pipe connector on the delivery pipe back on and fully engage the orange clip and ensure it makes a secure and leak free connection.

Thanks for response, the pic isn't of my car...just to show the L pipe i'm talking about (showing what it should be doing i guess).
The whole orange/L bracket fitting (connection) is mullered, so it won't release...therefore to remove (to do the pump replacement), i am going to have to break it off....

The fuel pump assembly can be replaced easily and fairly cheaply with a S/H unit from someone like Matty on here.
You obviously need to try and avoid having to drop the tank.
What I would suggest is that you try and get the pipe off regardless of damaging the steel pump delivery tube and then wangle what's left of the orange clip out of the black fitting.
Sounds a bit obvious perhaps but I don't see what else you can do.

I can get at the orange clip no problem, just cant get it to come apart (separate the pipe from the tank...tried all sorts, fingers, two small flat screwdrivers to try and pinch whats left of the orange piece etc..
As mentioned above, both sides of the clip on fitting have been mullered by a previous attempt by the looks...
if i go at it some more i'm fearful of breaking the whole thing, then having to drop the tank to replace the pipe & 'L' piece...
????

You have 2 choices really if it won't come off
1. Leave the original pump on
2. Fork out for a second hand fuel system component (the subaru breakers on here will have loads)
Then like you said you will have to drop the tank

I take no responsibility for fireballs that used to be cars but....
I am fairly sure that pipe with the special fitting is the fuel supply line from the pump to the fuel rail. It is designed like that as it is higher pressure. It should be a short section of pipe/hose which then joins to a long section down infront of the rear nearside wheel with another one of those plastic locking clips. Subaru obviously used those clips for a reason but when you get to where the long section of pipe ends in the engine bay the connections revert to normal push on ones with hose clips.
So your only options are.
1. Leave it alone.
2. Buy a new/used pipe section and drop the tank which is a pig of a job as I think the diff and definitely the prop are in the way.
3. Alter the fittings.
Now the problem here is that the metal pipe on the pump assembly doesn't have the usual ridge on it to prevent the pipe slipping off. So you would need to have this metal pipe modded to make it a better more secure fitting. Then mod the oe hose binning the old plastic end with something compatible.
You could run a new piece of hose from the supply and join it to the original pipe near the connector in front of the rear nearside wheel. There is no reason this can't be done safely and cheaply but a bodge with the wrong fittings used could be very dangerous.
