Default Turbo question

Ive been loosing power in my scooby for a few months but I dont drive her much and now its been looked at the turbo is cooked, so I need to replace do I stick with the standard td04 13g i think or upgrade only thing is I`m not in a position to fork out on other upgrades to make it work at the moment i.e bigger injectors, bigger intercooler remap etc so I think a td05 is out the question. My car is a 04 blobeye wrx 225 with cat back system and blitz induction kit

Pretty much any other turbo is going to require a map and fueling mods at the very least.

Cheers yardz thats what I thought shame though as I do would like to mod my scoob a little just bad timing so will have to put that off till new year. Is many versions of the td04 turbo for the 2004 wrx or is there just the one?

Make sure it's a New Age one i.e. with the front entry intake collar.

Or I guess, and if buying second hand, one off of a Classic MY97-00 UK Turbo 2000 would also fit (front entry, too).

As far as I know there's only TD04L? But as stated there's top entry and front entry. you can get modified hybrids but again map is required. What's exactly give up on yours?

Well yardz theres a bit going on its pushed oil up the vacuum pipes and is leaking externally from the seam on the snail on cartridge housing(forgive me for my lack knowledge in explaining it technically to you) serious lack on boost as if its a N/A motor and was like that constantly for a week nearly two. My mechanic cleaned the pipes from the turbo so I dont know if that made a difference and I dot know if this like all impreza`s I`ve noticed a like hiss noise till it gets to 3000 rpm and dissapears. Apparently it does smoke slightly from exhaust on gear changes when boosting. I do like to drive my scooby the way it was designed to do GOING ANYWHERE QUICKLEY and 1st gear boosts lovely pulls like a train, 2nd gear the same, 3rd gear still boosting but you can feel a difference in torque, 4th gear theres no boost at all really and 5th gear absolutely at all.
