Default What make oil filter? 2006 hawk wrx

Hi all,

Apologies this has probably been asked a million times but for the life of me I cannot find the answer on here.

I am about to start getting bits for doing a service on my 2006 hawk wrx. It has a couple of performance mods and doing roughly 270-280bhp.
Opie oils has already advised best oils etc. to get but left me thinking about the filter itself.
I was looking at a K&N filter but in back of my mind recall having read people rate the genuine filter very highly.

So.. What shall I go for?

Genuine (black or blue?)
K&N
HKS
Another?

Many thanks,

Just a better built filter. To be honest most are fine.

better tell Subaru that info then as they have been supplying them for approx 10yrs.........................

never had any issues with the BLUE Subaru filter but yes the BLACK version is better quality (carry both in stock as well as K&N and RCM uprated filters)

we also stock supply high quality oils & fluids and recomend the "best" for your car and circumstances not just something that gets us a profit and often at better pricing than the many "specialists" out there..

anyone know of any issues with the BOSCH filter? just that ECP has a sale on
Always used BOSCH filters on all other cars I have had with no issues and at that price looks to be a good buy.

As long as you buy a filter from a reputable company, it will be fine. You buy the cheapest thing you can find on Ebay, then you might have an issue (we have heard of rubbish filters disintegrating internally and when they have been taken out, the paper is just a mushy mess).

The purpose of a filter is to stop big bits in the oil. There shouldn't be much stuff like that in the oil anyway, so it's not got the hardest job. The real cleaning of the oil is done by the detergents in the oil.

I know there are comments that the blue ones leak oil, but that was only a few from certain batches and to my knowledge that problem has been sorted out (we definitely don't have any of the affected ones).

I hate to help out ECP, but Bosch filters are fine.

Cheers

Tim
