Default Engine oil advice - grade/type/brand

Sure this has been covered before. I did search and found an 18 page thread, but tbh 18 pages is a bit of a long read for a simple question and answer

UK based
Impreza Turbo 2000

What oil should I be using in it?

Semi or full synthetic?

And what grade?

Is there a preferred brand and are these engines sensitive to oil type/make?

Thanks.

Simple answer , I would use 10w-40 semi synthetic, euro car parts around £13 for oil and filter,

But lots of different opinions on oil here lol

Are you doing it yourself, taking it to a stealer or having a specialist do it?

Myself, just fitted a rebuilt engine from API. Coming up to the 1000 mile first oil change. I have detailed instructions on the correct process, but thought I'd research what oil would be a sensible choice.

As above hence my original question.

Dave will have a preference considering he's built the engine and permantly sees knackered engines arriving on his door step.

He didn't specify and the info package he gives says "any quality" oil, or something like that. Just thought I'd see what others used.
