Help on TD05 16g
Hi
im fairly new to impreza's so im hoping for some advice. I recently brought a blobeye wrx and am looking for a more power. ive spent hours reading through various post and websites and decided on the td05 16g. The question is if the turbo is top mounted and im going to need front is there anywhere that does this ? and if so has anyone had it done
Many thanks

Yes, some people have had a machine shop cut off the top feed elbow, and have a 58mm straight collar rewelded on.
Also, I think Andy Forrest offers a compressor cover swap-over service.
Tip: does it HAVE to be the 16g? 'Cause you could make life easier for yourself by fitting the Blob STi's VF35. They max out at a similar bhp to the 16g (c.340+ on a good day) - but are newer/younger and are, allegedly, slightly earlier spooling.

I bought mine cheaply as aftermarket 16g from CRX racing in California, (you get what you pay for ) It came with a big TMIC, but In my case I had a problem with the waste gate Actuator , it opened prematurely at 0.25 Bar, I could not make more than 1 bar boost. I also have added decat uppipe and colder plugs / JGM tune / Walboro 255 pump / 550 cc injectors.
I now have just under 1.5 bar boost , controlled by the the tune and a Manual boost controller. Its proabably between 320-340bhp. However I need a quick ECU flash and rolling road following the addition of a new Actuator to confirm that.
You will loose some of the low end spool , so if you are driving around town it will not be a good pickup , but if you drive out in the country , above 3,5k right through to 7k its a lot of fun.
However , all the extra power will cook the brakes and you will wish for better suspension , lots to learn on the site about all that though. Have Fun Regards Ralph

I just think for around £400 i could get a refurbished TD05 instead of used unknown unit ie a 35 or 34. With regards to lag from it the cars only used on weekends and living in the countryside im not to bothered. Do you know what andy forrest charges for the conversion ?
The suspension had all been changed to perrins shocks and springs and the brakes will be looked at.
are 4 pots not enough for around 3-330 bhp then ? i would of thought they'd be fine as long as discs and pads were uprated to cope with the extra power
thanks for the replys

I bought a used 50k mile TD05 16G. Then bought a machined front entry compressor cover, swapped them over. Job done.

These turbos are getting very good reviews all over... some good threads on here about them. been using them in USA and Asutralia for a while with good results and no durability issues... Worth thinking about?

Here's my old bug wrx with a front entry converted td05-16g:
The car was mapped on the worst possible 97 ron fuel so that it could be filled up everywhere (fed up of hunting for shell stations when out and about), and would have made about 10bhp more on decent fuel.
The spool on the graph looks quite late, but it spooled a couple of hundred rpm earlier on the road.
I love the "ketchup" boost (nothing, nothing, omg there's ketchup all over my chips) the td05 turbos provide (I've had both 16g and 20g). If you like linearity, then don't get a td05, but if you like the "boot in the back" feeling, a td05 is a good choice IMO.
I also had a sc36 billet, which was far too smooth for my liking - faster, but boring...
