excessive fuel usage
Hi All
I got a EJ20 Engine 2.0T
I think its same as WRX 98-00
A subaru forester year 2000, S Turbo (TD04L turbo)
Its using crazy amounts of fuel
Have managed to get it up to 300KM per tank, but it should be seeing 400-500
I've replaced
Plugs
O2 Sensor
Maf
Coolant Sensor
Cleaned the IACV
It was on 230km per tank, but now more like 300km
Its still way too low
Any ideas what else to try?
I guess the CAT is one thing... but i live in country that doesn't require them, so could remove it i guess

So a bit less than 200 miles per tank, is it an auto by any chance? and what sort of driving are we talking about, town or highway, lots of short trips, some spirited driving or miss daisy style.
Many things can effect fuel consumption, but driving style is the key to reasonable mpg.
If it's an auto around town it will suck especially if there's lots of traffic and short trips. Sounds like you got something right if it's improved by 80km per tank.
P.S Subarus aren't renowned for good fuel consumption.

I've been told by other owners if I rag it then I should be getting down to 350km a tank
It's an auto, and I live in the country, so not quite as bad as around town, but not highway
My driving depends on how late I am
... I'm mostly late!
Last time I tested it, I was careful and just managed 300km

It averages 20 degrees C here most of the year, and we are at 6000 feet

Will try a tank under 3000 rpm and see what I get
What should I expect to be seeing? (apart from lots of people over taking me)
LPG.....Ha, I live in Kenya, getting normal fuel is often an issue!
Good suggestion though!

What are your LTFT (Long term fuel trim) figures? (from OBD Live data)
I had an LTFT of just over 10% on a merc, and it turned out to be gunked up injectors. The crap spray/mix was causing inefficient combustion so unburnt fuel/air mix was passing through, and this caused O2 sensors to think it was running lean and made the ECU crank the fuel up!
I whipped them out, cleaned them up, and it ran a whole lot better too.

I have the laptop....nothing else though
Injectors are a good suggestion, I'll try some cleaner in there to see if that help (not as good as cleaning properly, but a start)

Really oh well, best sticking to good old petrol, LPG is half the price of petrol here
I normally get 28MPG, if you drove long distance under 3000 RPM you should get abit more, but then whats the point, other option is to get it remapped, so you run 2 maps, one for mpg other for speed, thats what a guy i know does
