I bet a few have done that suddenly, and by accident. I can't see any other explanation.

Exactly that.
With 5spd box looks like 60mm ish move back wouldn't be too hard.
I'm concerned about front driveshadt angles mainly, I think everything else can be sorted fairly easily
Mainly thinking about doing it to balance the car better....

Sounds like more effort than it's worth to me But go ahead, would be interesting to see the result. Can't imagine it'll be great for the driveshafts - plus wouldn't you have to shorten the propshaft too?

you may also be able to achieve the same results but fitting lighter parts such as panels/bonnet and by putting the battery in the boot etc.

Sorry not 'exactly that', I misread. I just want to shift it back abit, but concerned about shaft angle mainly.
Looks like major chassic work with a 6speed, but 5speed might be a goer!
Current weight distribution with a 6speed, heavy front mount, fully stripped rally car with spare in boot, half tank fuel and people is fr:rr 64:36

Engine and gearbox cradle modifying or making from scratcj. steering rack geometry and sump might be tricky
Shorten prop and exhaust
Lengthen front shafts
Extend radiator and intercooler pipes
Probably a few more
