Default Speedo not working, check light on. Bypass?

Hi

The clocks on my 96 RA have stopped working and as a result its gone into limp mode. The speedo has always been pretty much useless and jumped around all over the place so I rely on gps to monitor my speed.
Is there any way of getting past the speedometer restrictor until I can source replacement clocks?

Cheers

there is no way of getting around unfortunately, what makes you think its the clocks and not the speedo cable or mph converter(if there is one fitted) as jumping needle are sign the cable/converter are on its way out.

The problem with with the speedo (I assume) is it has a UK box fitted with JDM clocks. The speedos never been accurate since the box was changed with or without a convertor. I guess having the needle bent at 180km + wasnt good for them.
If I fit UK clocks I guess I'll be in the same boat, they wont be compatible with the JDM ecu?

Its got an ESL fitted.

Worth getting a new gearbox kph to mph converter. Depending on vehicle model it could be cable or electric driven. Give alyn@asperformance a ring

Thanks for the replies gents. Ive tried three different mechanical convertors and they all make the needle bounce.

Just an after thought as a temp bodge (Ive got a track day booked next week) If I can make the needle stick at say 10 mph the ecu will think the clocks are working.
Will update later.

The latest ESL software allows you to set the vehicle speed limit fuel cut engine speed. v2.0 92/6 board or any 97/8 board.
