Help!
When I replace my MY97 ecu with a LINK ecu (shortly) what is the max boost that the car can run on the standard MAP sensor(Paperwork says 18psi = 1.2 Bar - is this correct?) Is there a Fuel cut built into the Link or will that be binned with the old ECU? (or can it be raised a la Unichip!)

Finally some people have said that you cannot fit a non-airbag steering wheel to a MY97 because the airbag sensor is somehow linked up to the standard ECU - is this still the case with the LINK or can I get a new non-airbag steering wheel and fit it with no ECU issues

Thanx

Wuz,

With the Link you have control it can be set to what you want within reason. As for the air bag I know folk who have changed them on a 97 with std ecu providing you get the right boss to fit I beleive it will be ok speak to someone who has done it though incase you get more then egg on your face;-)

Cheers Top Cat, I thought that was the case, but I want to ensure there is some sort of fuel cut available so the engine will not go bang! (Link in AFTER engine rebuild!)

anyone else got any ideas?

The Link can bring in a fuel cut anything up to 1.54 bar/254kpA (map limit).
Above this the fuel cut is switched off.

So I can run up to 1.5 bar on the standard MAP sensor - cool

I thought 254 Kpa was 18 psi=1.2 bar? Anyone else?

Wuz,

Who's mapping the Link for you ?

The ecu doesn't effect the airbag, but it's a SOB to swap to a standard steering wheel.

Unless MOMO etc', have started making a "conversion" boss, the standard MOMO Subaru boss doesn't fit, and getting it to do so, involves a lot of machining.

I'm not aware of anyone currently making a specific boss to do the job.

Mark.

According to the info I have, the standard MAP sensor wil max out at 22 kpA (1.2 bar) can I realisticly go further with the standard sensor or do I need the 3 bar MAP sensor a la BRD?

I was looking to run 1.25 to 1.3 bar.

Thanks

Thumbs up

I have it on very good authority that the 97MY UK map sensor is ok up to 1.8 bar and I think my Link will only work up to 1.55 bar anyway!

Jacko.

p.s. WUZ, that should read 220 KPa as 100KPa is atmospheric !

You should be able to run that boost pressure okay, providing it's mapped correctly.

Are you doing it yourself or is there someone in mind?

Some people running considerably more.........

A couple of extra questions..............

I does anyone know how much BRD charge to map a LINK ecu (originally bought from them)?

Is there anyone else that is respected enough by Scobynetters to be let loose on a remap of a LINK?

Spoke to Branko (no comment) and it seems they now have some new software they can download into the Link-for 150 pounds. Anyone else try ther new software? how does it compare to the existing software. (chip purchased in August 2001)

Lets clarify one thing.

MY92-96 map sensor is only linear up to about 1.2 bar.

MY97-00 map sensors are linear up to 1.8 bar.

MY01-02 sensors are also linear up to 1.8 bar (afaik)

Link can "only" read up to 1.55 bar from any "standard" Subaru sensor ... thats the way the software is written, if you want to go higher then you can fit a 3 bar sensor (read minus 1.0 and plus 2.0) which changes the map load lines so that the ecu will read up to 2.0 bar. However MY92-96 can only read up to 1.55 bar with an uprated map sensor ... still limited.

Sam I'm amazed that you were having to change MAP sensors, maybe MAF but MAP sensors are pretty reliable items, I have never come across it ... sods law says though. As long as the oil filter is kept in line with it its foolproof IMHO.

Thanks to al that have given up time and info to this post - it has all been worthwhile for me so far.

Sam, Bob, What is your recommendation for an I/C for my car. Will a STI IV I/C and silicon hoses be good enough as the VF28 will not be producing that much heat @ 1.25-1.3 bar.

Please reply - I would not be asking if I didn't value your opinions.

every so often link release some chip upgrades to sort out little problematic issues, or make the product better. so obviously the lastest chip is the best comes with out saying . the latest chip upgrade supports pc tuning down load and up load, also it has better idling, more resolution ( that is if you have the 6 row one) as it uses 10 rows. also it should have a facility to run better off boost that is off course if your lambda sensor has not packed it in yet!! how old is it? they are consumable you know ;D. the map will always be limited by how good your map sensor is really and issue that a lot of people do not take into consideration. with my scoob i went through 2 in 2 years. alan has gone through the same number if i remember correctly with his 99. and i know of another person who will be on his 3rd one soon on his 99 as well!

you can run more up to 1.55bar with your standard map sensor but i never tried to go above that so who know! the map sensor i think is only rated 2.2bar absolute which is 1.2bar for you an me. but it willread above that. not sure if it becomes less accurate or not though.

sam

edit to say i meant to say lambda sensor not map oops:
