Default Where to walk a dog in essex

Hi all,
we want to take our dog for a long walk today but thought it would be good to take her somewhere different for a change.
So where do you go?
Not just a field,we were thinking more of a woodland walk, lakes country parks etc.

We don't mind travelling so what's your advice?

good idea mate,
I did the same with my german shepherd. It really saves the joints in later life by not stressing them whilst they are developing.Made sure she was not overexercised and also food control is important so we dont have a fat german shepherd lol

we just like walking in the countryside where the dog can be off the lead and following her nose.country parks, woods lakes etc.

Unfortunately our bitch isnt the most socialised dog when it comes to other dogs so its good to find a place thats not packed full of people.thats why public footpaths are good because you tend to only meet ramblers lol.

its been a big problem for us trying to socialise her because most dog owners see a big black german shepherd coming and drag their dogs away.

Our girl tends to think she rules the roost when it comes to other dogs and can be quite dominant (sometimes mouthing or chasing) but she has never hurt another dog but people hear the noise and get scared.
She needs to meet other large dogs and learn to "speak" doggy language which i think she fails to understand sometimes.she has been bitten a few times by just running straight up to strange dogs and they just bite her.

I walk 2 of my dogs each Sat/Sun with a pack of 10-15 large dogs, including a shepherd, a Briard, a Newfoundland, and various Retrievers, etc. Many of them are playful, but the pack soon sorts out any issues, and all the dogs are now very well socialised. We meet at hockley mount about 8.15 and walk for 1 1/2 - 2hrs.

Fk me, Cesar the dog whisperer is among us just kidding...

I hear you konceppt, bitches can be a lot more snappy i've found...I have the exact same problem with mine, she has NO fear whatsoever which is a shame because all she ever wants to do is play.

I can't count the number of times she sees another dog, tear ***** over, jowls flopping in the wind, owners pulling their dogs back just for Karma (that's her name) to pull up short, drop down on her front end, bum in the air wagging her tail...'Game? Play?'

She even had a muscle bound Staff go for her and all the dopey cow did was step back, **** her head and whack it with her paw...

I understand on the dominance thing as well...mine is always trying to heard other dogs on the walk! If you do come over North Wield give me a shout and we'll see how they get on?

Maybe even an ESC dog walking session is on the cards?

If you live in Noak Bridge you live literally on the doorstep of Billericay Dog Training School. Might be worth a wander over to help the socialising bit?

i know.she did go to puppy classes but she just gets excited by other dogs.she tends to bark at them and whine if she is on the lead.she wants to play but doesnt really know how to without playing rough.after a few minutes she calms down and buggers off and does her own thing.i did consider asking the training school if i could just bring her to watch the other dogs training and meet the other dogs

Hi steffi4 in Harlow you have the common, or town park or down by the river behind the train station.

Nearby towards Sawbridgeworth there is Pishiobury park.

Further afield is Hylands at Chelmsford or Forty Hall etc at Enfield.

Are you going to do dog training classes?

definatly with a black lab. apparently hard to train as they have a short attention span but he's only been here a day and already nearlly toilet trained only 2 accidents as my little girl closed the door where his paper is.
getting his jabs all done on 19th so will be venturing out to play. need to socialise him early as makes it easier in the long run. do you know any classes to recommend??

Labs are great dogs, very eager to please and intelligent, therefore training is usually not at all hard.

Socialisation is so important, once she is allowed out let her go up to all other dogs, don't worry about her only being a pup, most dogs will realise and will be gentle, and if the occasional one is grumpy, don't worry.
Lastly, be very careful not to over walk a young pup, they have boundless enthusiasm as pups, therefore they will happily over do it and this can lead to serious problems into adulthood, and later in there lives.
Enjoy.

i read somewhere its 5 mins per month so if the pup is 3 months it needs a 15min walk.
he's been really good and settled in well. gonna give him his first bath tonight as he's a bit smelly. looking we're looking forward to having a happy life with him

That is a generally used rule of thumb, works fine. They can have more than 1 walk at that length each day.
