More snow on the way........
Interweb warning..........
Motoring organisations have predicted a "Black Monday" which could see a record number of breakdowns on the treacherous roads and motorways.
Large parts of Northern England and Scotland were already struggling to cope with up to nine inches of snow, but heavy falls are also expected in London and the southeast over the next two days.
In addition the country will receive a further arctic blast with temperatures dropping as low as minus 15 in some northern parts and minus 12 elsewhere.
Met Office forecaster, Robin Downton, said: "The next few days are going to be very cold, with day time temperatures struggling to get above freezing everywhere in the UK. Normal temperatures for this time of year are around seven or eight degrees, but it will be a lot colder than usual.
"Evening and night time temperatures could fall to minus ten or minus 12, and over the next few days most people will see snow".
Heavy snow will be on the eastern side of the country. There could be quite a considerable amount and cause a few problems.
Elsewhere wintry conditions continued to catch people out unawares.
New Year's revellers at England's highest pub were continuing their celebrations after getting stuck in a three day "lock-in".
Drifting snow, which was 7ft deep in some places, meant party goers at the Tan Hill Inn on the Yorkshire Dales had been unable to leave.
Members of Leeds University Cross Country Club, who had organised their New Year's Eve party at the pub, said they had been making the best of their situation thanks to free beer and a siege mentality.
Student Nathan Martin, 26, from Huddersfield, said: "We were meant to have a barn dance, but it was too cold in the barn so we stayed in the pub.
"Despite not being able to get out, we've had a good time”.
