Angry Thank You Southend Council......NOT!

Went to my lock up today to get a monitor for a Customer. Only to find the entire contents were missing

Even the locks were taken. At first I thought thieving ******* have done my lock up.

Transpires that Southend Council havnt bothered to take the direct debit out of my account for two months and decided they would terminate my agreement and empty the lock up but not tell me.

After speaking with the Council they amazingly do not have any of my original contact details, even though my mobile is still the same number, nor the letter sent in August updating my address.

Apart from the material and computer goods (and as Nate & Sam can vouch there was a lot in there), the loss of irriplaceable stuff like photos of the kids and family heir looms is absolutely gutting.

If anyone can offer some meaningful advice I'd be grateful

What c**ts! Have they now given you copies of the notice they should have given you? Taking them to court springs to mind.

Surely they can not dispose of items, and would have to store them for a set period to give owners a chance to claim them.

I can only sympathise. I lived there for 9 years: never have I witnessed such a bunch of utter pocket-lining cross-party mafioso c*nts in local politics. They've probably sold your stuff down the car-boot or traded it for bush-meat with some Zimbabwean spongers!

So far all we know is that they emptied it a couple of weeks ago and they don't know where all the stuff is needless to say an official complaint has been made. As far as we're concerned they've stolen thousands of pounds worth of stuff, not to mention sentimental value, and they won't be getting away with it

Andy,

real sorry to hear this.

I'm sure if you furnish someone on here with sufficient doughnuts they will give you some sound advice and guidance.

Trouble is how much will have gone into the pockets of those that actually emptied the lock up. Keep us posted on how you get on.

this is theft, they have to take reasonable care of the goods, and make an effort to contact you, they simply cannot assume ownership of them, see a solicitor.

its my understanding (as recently advised by a council worker who were repossessing a neighbour) that when the council clear a garage/house/flat - any kind of premesis - anything they clear has to be put in storage for 28 days - that is the time span that you have to claim your goods back. As with my neighbour - the council were saying that things are put in storage and the bill clocks up - so the evictee ends up with a fee for clearance and storage, on top of whatever rent is in arrears

Defo take it further

Andy, I see this as a 'GREAT' idea, you will also (if you sweet talk the reporter, and say the right things about your business and stock) get some kind of advertsing out of this as well in anything that gets published

Very true Matt
TBH I'm going to need a few days just to remember how much stuff was in there. Sounds daft but the more we talk about this the more we remember.
Sams got writers cramp making out the list

I was going to treat him to some burgers and bacon butties on Sunday but he can't make it

Jokes aside thanks Chris

Just to update.....
The Council kindly left me a message so I return the call for some numpty to tell me that we cannot do anything till Monday as they cannot find my letter from August and that the Admin lady is part-time.
When I explained that my possesions are a tad more important than the letter I was told I'm being aggressive and the guy hangs up

After making an official complaint and being given assurances that I would be contacted this afternoon, surprise surprise nobody has called me back

What a bunch of tos$$ers. Although to be fair to the guy that took the complaint details he was as good as gold. Then I find out that that I am the second person to make the same complaint about a lock up being emptied that day

When I pressed further, it turns out that persons' lock up is in the same block as mine

The bit that really gets me is how when whoever it was that broke into my lock up couldnt tell immediately that this wasnt right. All my stuff is boxed and labeled and sat on pallets. A Cooker, Fridge Freezer, Washing Machine, Sofa Bed, Double Bed, two boxed sets of wheels etc. etc. They must of thought they'd won the lottery compared to the normal sh!te they pull out of these places. Why no phone calls?

Nate if I were you check your Lock Up still has everything inside

So apart from being £1000s out of pocket, losing god knows how many possesions and goods, screwing my day up completely work wise, I'm still none the wiser as to where my possessions are

I can't wait for Monday
