Default Intercooler Spray Question - Winter?

Do I need to put some sort of additive along with normal water when filling up my intercooler spray bottle in the winter to prevent freezing?

Cheers

Em

Hi Em, no.

The point at which it would be required I am pretty confident it won't be freezing anymore

Also what you would need to put in would undoubtedly attack your paint protection on a warm bonnet.

I was thinking about taking the water spray jets off the scoop and putting them on the front bumper to spray the front mount

I saw a tidy job of this on a White RA whilst on holiday, Beachy Head infact I hope his scoob hadn't sent him over the edge !

Not sure of the benefit though, a good FMIC all exposed to full faced airflow ?

My theory is that having a mist of water evaporating through the airflow may make the I/C more efficient, might not be a lot but seeing as though my car has the water spray fitted and is obsolete now, why not spend a little time and make use of it.

Only thing is that the water bottle has gone due to the I/C pipe work, so will have to relocate it in the boot.

Wouldn't the added weight of the water 1 litre= 1kg mitigate any momentary benefit to performance ? To be worthwhile you need a minimum 2 litre tank which isn't an insignificant weight gain.

if it's in the boot it'll help to redistribute some weight and aid handling Mr Smarty Pants

Ahh but remove it all together Standard classic capacity is 1 litre and you get about 10 squirts before it's gone. Before I junked mine, on the laptop it reduced temps by a whole degree for about 5 seconds I reckon it's a waste of time on most road cars running FMIC.

I was thinking of draining my Spec D I/C tank due to lack of use.....along with the petrol, coolant, tax, oil...for the same reason

Mix some meths in with the water for your water spray. it'll make the cooling effect much more efficient. Instead of fitting the jets to the front mount you can get a nos kit that does the same thing but is much more efficient and effective

I did think about using a similar system on my V-Limited Scoob, though using Co2 as most decent car shops sell it for welding purposes

If outside temps are cold enough to freeze the water in the engine bay/boot then I can't see the spray being of much use anyway!

I've never added anything to mine by the way.
