Hiya mate.....After months of being cocked about by engine builders in the area with extorionate prices for doing the job, and after the 3rd supposed engine build im now on the last part of rebuilding mine.....Yeah its hell of a daunting thing to do but as a bit of a spanner twirler with a bit of experience in all things aircooled (still a flat 4) thought id give it a go.... Dude in all seriousness it aint that hard to do its trully not...Its really satisfying and enjoyable to learn bout these engines, If you needed any help i dont object to rollin up the sleeves as along as the tea is hot, but if you wanted to get it rebuilt then id plump for extreme or roger clarke mate....

I got to be honest with you here fella i went genuine scooby on my crank and bearings and pistons, i mean 250. for the crank and 30.00 per piston was too cheap to turn down, i got my block machined by IVOR SEARLE in cambridge who supplied me with the correct bearings and ive used ZEN, CARL DAVIES,ADVANCED AUTO PERFORMANCE PARTS,Import Car Parts Japanese Car Parts, AND GRAHAM GOODE for all the other gaskets. I know it looks like a bit of a shop around but the asda adverts inspire me....I've got a mate in newmarket that can get the machining if required done at a more favourable rate

Matt and Olly are very helpful guys, they're not the cheapest by a long shot, but they only sell quality gear.

Bought pretty much every gasket from them barring the cylinder head gaskets (first time round), which I stupidly bought from fleabay and ended up paying twice because they didn't last long

is it worth changing my pistons and rods while its apart, i know the sti has forged items as standard the car does'nt smoke theres a faint slap from cold but fine when hot but thought this was common with forged items????(i'm probly wrong lol).i'm not after huge power would be happy to hit 350 bhp, are the standard internals capable of this figure???
