Car Wax Testing

Car Wax Testing
Had a spare few hours yesterday between some tests at the hospital so i done this (typed up for another forum)
No major reason why just that i like layering different waxes and wanted to start doing a few tests towards obtaining a favourite combo. I had a few hours to kill and thought I'd give it a go. So far only paste waxes as I had a choice of 10. I'll have a go with the liquid waxes on my other car.
Car is a 10 year old mk4 fiesta in dark metalic blue. Has a few battle scars lol but nothing major. Didn't go for full correction just solid prep work. After polishing the paint it was sealed with Chemical Guys Xtreme Deapth & Seal and Poorboys Diamond White Glaze.
As I wanted to see what different waxes would layer like I put down an even all over coat of Dodo Rainforrest Rub. Applied panel by panel and left to cure it was then buffed off (after these layers wear off I'll start again and put one of the other waxes as the base coat). After an hour I then applied a variety of waxes to each panel.
The list of waxes I'm testing is as follows:
Dodo:
Rainforrest Rub
Blue Velvet
Purple Haze
White Diamond
Light Fantastic
Super Natural
Chemical Guys:
Pete 53 Black Pearl
Poorboys:
Natty's Blue
Zymol:
Creme
Glasur
I'll be looking for best durability as well as ease of application as a combo. Looks will also play a big part. Application wise my favourite combo so far is Pete 53, Supernatural, Blue velet and both of the Zymol waxes. All layered effortlessly over the base layer of Rainforrest Rub.
Looks wise so far it's between Pete 53, Supernatural and Blue Velvet.
Was farily tired after finishing that lot lol. So will post some after pics up tonight.
Took one pic on my phone of the bonnet which has the Dodo Rainforrest Rub and then Pete 53's Black Pearl Layered over the top.

Will be looks for a couple of test cars at some point.
Stu - Yup got the 53 from you. First time i've used it. Stunning wax to work with. Went on smoothly and evenly, curred well and buffed off easily too. Smell is a bonus as well Yeah when's Stu53 coming out? You could follow it up with Stu53 Evo

Form an orderly cue. If someone wants to arrange a group buy i know a detailing bod that would give a superb discount
The water sheeting off last night while removing the bird droppings was a shock at how well the layering was working. Dare i say it but I actually want it to rain.
The look of the Dodo Supernatural is looking lush to me. Think Kev liked it as well. Although i have found a lot of finger prints on it this morning

Hi Matt,
How do you rate the Dodo compared to the Blackfire I have on my car?
I still have quite a bit left to use but considering alternatives when I finish it.
I'm still a huge fan of PB Natty's... I don't think anything compares for that price range and up to the Blackfire.
cheers

Would try this first before going for the expensive kit and interior out route.

Natty Wax is a cracking wax for the money. It performs like other waxes that are £30 - £40 a pot. The Dodo £30 -£35 waxes perform like £60+ pots of wax but the Supernatural performs like £150+ wax and imo you'd need to spend probably around £400 a pot to get any real worthwhile noticable differences.
One i was surprised by was the Pete's 53. Easy on, easy off and was sheeting well last night. It gives a great look, not quite as wet as the SN but better than the Zymol I have on there and a bit more than the Natty's.
At the end of the day though it comes down to what you prefer to use. That can only come with practice and trial and error.

Dodo waxes kick ar$e imo. The Supernatural is by far the best wax I've ever used. The Blackfire is a nice easy wax to apply but can be hard to buff off. Where as the Dodo is much easier.

I think I will give Dodo a try... not sure I coul justify spending £95 for a pot though so it might have to be Purple Haze.
Should probably give you another visit to try some out.
I do agree that the Blackfire wax isn't the isn't to use. Although the Wet Diamond paint protection is about the quickest and easiest thing about.

But yup the Wet Diamond is about the easiest product i've ever used.
