Default legal technicalities

I've sorted the scoob out over the weekend ready for the MOT, which ran out 2 weeks ago, the car has been laid up in the garage since January.

I'm getting the car insured tomorrow and will need to take it to a garage, I know it's legal to drive the car straight from my garage to a prebooked MOT station, but is it legal to drive the car to work first until the MOT station opens then take it over?

Only ask because if I can get the car MOT'd at work, I can take it to the Lodge meet, or else I'll have to wait until saturday and take it to my usual place

In a word 'No'.

You can only use it to travel to and from the MOT testing station. The Station should be a 'local' one, I.e you can't drive it to say Brighton, if you live in Essex, to get it tested. As you stated, the vehicle MUST be booked in if the MOT has expired.

There are 2 places I might consider going to in Laindon where I work mate, and that's Toomeys or Ford, but I don't like the idea of leaving the car with them.

When I took the Ranger to Ford's for a service, they put a dent in the rear quarter just above the O/S rear light and then denied they done it!! even though I had polished the truck the day before and know for a fact it wasn't there!

As for Toomeys, I wasn't impressed when I took my old poxhall Omega there - tried charging me £280 to change the camshaft sensor, I done it myself and replaced the cambelt for £60.

I've been using the MOT garage at the 5 Bells for years now, and get on well with Ian and Jon who run it, they won't bend the MOT rules, but they are fair.

that's not good about fords. personally i never use main stealers for anything. i always get the impression they let the "kids" move the cars round as a treat for making a good cup of tea.

Dad took his scoob to big boys group opposite the police station. a mate of mine knows one of the mot testers there. we left dad's scoob there over night so that they had it first thing in the morning. was all returned hunky dory and with a fresh mot.

Paul I don't mind taking the car to the MOT if you want it done.

Not sure about the petrol station mate.

8am would be ideal for me, would be able to wrangle starting work an hour later, but 9 would be pushing it a little
