Default Oil Leak - Help Needed!!

I seem to have an oil leak which is driving me mad as its dripping on what seems to be the manifold (or something hot), and stinks the inside of the car out and gives off some smoke.
If i'm right, it looks to be coming from the passenger side of the engine, and from the rocker cover. Not sure if thats right, but i need to know the breakdown of that side of the engine.
I'm pretty crap when iit comes to engines, so does the rocker gasket come first and then the head gasket inside that???

What i need to know, is that would it be easy to sort out and a rough cost. Would rather do it myself, as my neighbour would probably help as well (mechanic).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Scotty.

Sounds like the rocker cover gasket has gone, as this is directly above the exhaust manifold and a common problem with Imprezas.

6x M6 bolts, swap the outer gasket, sparkplug gaskets and bolt seals, fiddly job but with a little patience easily done

Gasket kits vary in prices, cheapest I've seen is £15 from fleabay for one side.

As it's the passenger side, it's easier to take the battery and water bottle out to give you a bit more room

Cheers for the info. I don't need a torque wrench for the bolts do i or do they just need to be very tight???
Also, once i've taken the cover off, am i right in saying that the outer gasket/sparkplug gaskets and bolt seals are all under the cover??

Might be silly questions, but i would rather know everything before doing the job, and want to get it done before the next posers cruise.

Many thanks.

Scotty.

I take it i work from the top, not from underneath?

Just one last quickie, any idea of how long it should take to do?

Thing thats going to annoy me is thrying to reset the alarm and the stereo.

Is the cam seal inside the rocker cover?

the cam seal is behind the cam pulley behind the cam belt cover mate , if oil is drippin directly onto your headers (manifold) much more likely to be rocker cover gasket ! to answer your question , from the top !
