what a waste of tax payers money as usual. the money would be better spent on putting bobbies on the beat or funding another air ambulance.

Just a few thoughts,

Point 1:
Per the Echo comments......

Aren't motorbike number plates mounted under the seat?

Therefore if there's a helicopter above aren't they going to have to be really far back to actually catch the number plate details rather than a nice photo of the back of the bike.

Point 2:
Surely a helicopter hovering above any essex town could be better put to use catching people who double park, do 3-point turns in high streets, change lanes in stationery traffic or any other infinately more dangerous manouvers than doing 65 in a 60 with no-one else around?

They'd make far much more money doing this, and make our roads a lot safer.

I wonder how many thousands of pounds it will cost to issue a £60 fine, surely helicopters cost HUGE amounts of money to keep, including services, fuel, staffing, storing, and all the other factors to cost into this.

Unfortunately, this isn't new news to me.......... The Essex Police have been doing this for the last two years on the M11 from Stansted to Harlow - there are camera lines painted on the motorway in strange places specifically for the purpose of a helicopter to measure average speeds and issue tickets without stopping the driver.

I know of a couple of people hit by this when it all started...although TBH I haven't heard of any recently.

Shame, but that's life on the roads these days.....

I always wondered what those (what I thought were randomly) painted lines in the road were.

I think the UK needs a rethink on cameras full stop.

When speaking to BM Where in Germany, the German cameras are set up primarily to catch people breaking the '2 second rule' , speeding is however a secondary kind of offence, so I was told.

A wake up call for the UK .......... Or just keep on fleecing the motorist for something that is NOT for road safety !!!!!

Now that makes sense kind of.

Do the job then on the way back collect the money for the fuel.

They're not daft.
