New STi
These are really starting to grow on me now, went along to the dealers yesterday to have a look and a sit in it.
They had a new WR blue fitted with huge oval silencers and new STi wheels and it looked amazing in the flesh.
This really is a car that doesn't photograph well I think. When you see it up close it really is impressive from the new scoop to the front wings all the way back to the rear spoiler.
The WRX was a compromise and they would be better of just abandoning it and sticking with the STi only. Apparently the wheelbase is longer and wider than the old model.
The Si-drive or whatever it's called is perfect and not may people are talking about it. It's really the thing that could help move the car into a wider market. For instance stick it in the lowest setting, call it "wife mode" and its a normal easily driveable car with a bit of performance and the safety of 4wd. She can do the school run, shopping and get 30mpg out of it, I can then come home feel like a blast and switch the setting to full on "man mode" and cane the *** off it
It makes more of the car, I would now consider taking it on a family holiday for instance.... drive up to the lake district in economy mode and switch it to nutter mode when I arrive - brilliant.
The mirrors are weird though.... from the front they look quite small but from behind they are like truck mirrors, absolutely huge
The interior is leagues ahead of any previous impreza and a big step in the right direction.
Now I've seen it I love it

I do agree that it looks better in the flesh and is also growing on me too but I still cant get over those rear lights, they look like they have been sourced from Halfrauds

I think it looks terrible and is crying out for a 3 door version and those lights have got to go. Although the wide arches are the only plus points looks wise.
It's a shame as it is obviously very capable but many potential buyers will not even get to see what it can do to chnage their minds purely due to how it looks.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a facelift in a year or so.
I thought I saw one in Tesco's the other day and turned out to be an Astra, since when have Imprezas been confused for thoses type of cars.
All IMHO

You really have to look at it up close to see how good it is. Yup the lights are fugly but everything else is divine.
The saloon market is tiny compared to the hatchback market. It will take a little while as "normal" people are used to the rally slag look of an impreza and that will have put them off. Now the impreza is a more familiar shape, looks sensible and drives perfectly I am confident we will see more sales, for the lunatics that want banzai power there will always be an STi model (well wait until the diesel turns up with mental torque figures)

It's starting to grow on me too, far too few about on the roads though at the moment to help people get used to the looks.

must admit the newage look grew on me, but am very doubtful the new shape will
am sure the drive is fantastic, but the new impreza has lost it's "distinct" look. Have seen a few between home and london and they just dont stand out anymore.

Mostly yes, but when everyone realises how good it is then they will start selling in bigger numbers. I'm told the STi blobeyes were only selling about 8,500 a year, how many hawkeyes do you see regularly?
I think it being the new model and everyone remembering the bug eye being facelifted in 12 months is putting people off. The criminal road tax hikes and petrol prices through the roof have really hurt the market for our cars as well don't forget.

To me it is just looks like any car nothing really special about it infact it's not much different to a KIA PRO_CEED...CLASSY!!, at least the Classic, bug, blob and my favourite the hawk all had character... if anything it will entice more CHAVS!!
I think that confirms that I won't be purchasing one

thats my point... try the STi. Forget the WRX it's a pile of.. and should be ignored. Get and have a look at the dealer in Chelmsford's STi - you'll be out of that Noble quicker than you know it.
