Where to go for a engine rebuild??
Im looking into getting my engine rebuild and could really do with some advice on where to go and what uprated internal parts to go for. Where ive had the car parked up since tunnel run, ive had the engine code come up for the knock sensor when ive started to car up. It go's away by it self but im now paranoid as my engine is starting to sound a bit tappy from im sure is the injectors but the is another noise i cant work out where it coming from, it's almost like something is labouring somewhere in the engine bay
Also how much should i be looking to spend roughly??
thankful for all help

by the looks of things now its cheaper to buy a brand new block out of the usa what with exchange rates.
depends where you want to go with mods but a new 2.5 sti block should be good for 400 brake out of the box and you know its a new unit.

well i dont really want to go mad on the power, so i guess about 320-340bhp eventually. The main thing i want from the car is reliability and a engine that is not starting to sound like a diesel!! At a push i can realistically afford £2500, but i would prefer to keep it below that if possible.

I can tell you now that youre gonna need top spend every bit of that if you want anything other than a 2nd hand engine.
A new 2.5 bottom end can be had for appox £1400 and then youre looking at head machining, turbo, and map all plus labour A rebuilt 2ltr will cost similar money.
If i were you id be talking to some of the respected Essex subaru specialists.
Asking on forums for prices with regards to builds is a bit of a lost cause really fella. Youre best off calling and chatting to the guys that will be doing the work.

Sorry, don't know what model you have, but there are plenty of STi's running the kinda power you are after on std 2.0 STi engines, maybe that would be a more cost effective route.
Indeed, there is probably a std STi bottom end about to become available? Frayz?
