Anyone know what went on on the A127 tonight? I came down it to come off at Billericay (from Southend way) and saw 2 police cars (one was the Scooby), a fire engine and an ambulance all on the slip going onto the 127 parked on the side of the road - didn't see an accident but within half an hour - the A127 was shut off completely around Basildon/wickford/billericay and no traffic was allowed through toward the M25 - causing chaos in and around Basildon! Loads of Sirens sounding and more ambulances and fire engines were seen on-route. Whatever it was - it seemed pretty major!

Firefighters have been called to a car that has crashed into a house, one male driver and his rottweiler dog were trapped in the car following this collision.

The driver was killed in this incident but the dog has escaped uninjured.

Crews used one set of cutting equipment to release the dog from the wreckage. Structural engineers have been called in to assess the property .

Wow - I did figure that it must be something to do with the house - because the two police cars were parked up on the verge - at first instance I thought the Vauxhall police car had got stuck up on the grass (?) - but then wondered why that would need the subaru, a fire engine AND an ambulance. Traffic was chaos though - what an awful thing to happen!
