Smile PICTURES & VIDEO ARE UP !!!

Taking a trip up in the afternoon & staying in a nice farmhouse B&B.

Then we are meeting up with my brother Wednesday morning & heading to the Lincs Aviation Heritage Centre.

Where they will be firing up the engines on this bad boy.

Can't wait. The sound of the 4 Merlins alone has a profound effect on any one within range and they have a restored fully equiped control tower just as it would have been back in 1943 that you can go in & have a look round.

We donated some of my Dad's stuff to the museum & last time we went they let us get in the Lanc and left us to have a good clamber around exploring inside.

Mark

I'm very jealous Mark , what a great experiance that must have been to be able to go inside a Lanc. In my opinion only the sound of the Vulcan can come close to the sound of those Merlins spinning . would be interested in seeing any pics you take

Nice one matey, with the clear winter skies you'll be seeing quite a few of the current RAF fleet in the air.
Have fun

Thanks guys this place is well worth a visit.

Relive a World War Two Bomber Airfield at East Kirkby.Experience the sights and sounds, smells and atmosphere. The only place in the country to see a Lancaster Bomber on its original airfield, and ride in it!.

Including, original Control Tower, welcoming NAAFI and an emotionally evocative Memorial Chapel containing the 848 names of personnel who gave their lives from this airfield.

Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre

Jess & my Dad at an engine run a few years ago.

His "office" as he used to call it. The Navigator's table.

His crew in 1943. He is in the middle at the back.

Despite this he made it through along with the rest of his crew. Click pic. to enlarge.

All that's left of their old dispersal point. The bushes top right grow in a crater where a Lanc blew up whilst it was being fuelled & armed.

I am very jealous!!!

My all time favourite plane. I live close to an airfield and there was one doing 3-4 flyovers last year during an airshow. Awesome sound!!!

I was there last year. The "Taxi run" they do is actually very short for the price of £165 or so. The sound is WONDERFUL, though. The museum has some seriously bent engines from crashed aircraft!

We we are back. What a great day I am still buzzing.

Just been catching up on the other threads so will post a link to the pictures once I have down loaded them all. There is some video from my little Caplio compact as well which I will transfer to YouTube tomorrow. It's only 30fps but watching it when they throttle up the engines gives you an idea of the power of this thing.

An "atmospheric" taster ~ more tomorrow.

Nice video Mark.

Must have been amazing to see and hear a whole airfield of those taking off!

Cheers Fozzy.

Just this one on it's own was awesome so a squadron of them fully laden with the engines bursting to get them airborne would be something to see & hear.
