On the A13 both London bound and Southend bound between Dagenham and the M25 turn off there is a Met Police average speed check in place. It measures you between two fixed points and relays the image/data to a marked police car which is sitting away from the road and out of your view as a driver. The first you know that you've been done is when you are sitting in the back of car being shown the video of your driving and your speed. You won't even be able to see the cameras which are relaying the images on the road either.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED SO WATCH OUT.

They didn't tell me whether it was permanent but did say it was in response to the large number of fatals on the A13 this year

I don't think it will become permanent but will definitely be a regular exercise undertaken ... simply because of the speeds they have caught people at today. Just for everybodies record if you are caught in excess of 100mph you license is gone.

I came back along the A13 from Dagenham today. I noticed that there are now at least 2 sets of markers painted on the road surface across 3 lanes suggesting there maybe GATSO's going in at some point....

didnt think you could drive for longer than 6 months without a uk licence, bet if you got caught they would stop you driving in the uk weather its a uk licence or not. them lines on the a13 have been there for ages...mostly since the new a13 was built if we are talking about the ones as you come out of the 50mph and into the 70mph near dagenham, gonna be alot of people in trouble with this cause that is a fast open road and people tend to give it alot of welly once it opens up. on the plus side unless there are warning signs on a police speed check or yellow painted camera's etc etc im pretty sure they could not use evidence from this against you??? i was under the impression all average speed cameras and gatso's etc had to be clearly visable and painted yellow in order to be convicted on any evidence from them?? a marked police car taping you i know is different but surely only with their on board camera??

You can drive on a non EU licence for up to 1 year, after that you have to take a UK test

i dont.... i can drive as long as i want here with my american licence.

i dont know why its differant, but it is. and besides, your test is rediculous from what i have heard. but i guess thats a good thing, because as a whole, english drivers tend to "know the laws" better than americans.

Mine wasn't gone. Seems a perpetual myth that being caught over 100 mph and you're banned automatically.
