Question Octane Booster

I know its strange that I'm asking what seems a sensible question/s

Who uses this and what make do you use?

Do you find it easy to purchase and what is the rough price?

Today I purchased a bottle of Millers Motorsport CVL Turbo Octane Booster

500mls for just over £9

Not sure if the sales guy saw me coming or have i done something right?

You're not wrong Tiny, everytime I go in there, it goes up

Silkolene Proboost is about £10.50

Putoline Octane Boost is about £9.50
(price is a guide only, as it's varies)

I always use Putoline as I seem to get more pops and bangs, plus bigger flames when using Tesco's 99RON

"NF" is said by a lot to be the best,it is the most costly at around 14 quid or so but the 300ml's do treat a lot of petrol.

Well £1.50 a bottle sounds like a good deal to me.

What brand is that Steve?

Here begs the question why?

Genuine question, no right or wrong answer but I'm really interested in why those of you that put it in your tanks do?

I put OB into the tank when over in Southern Ireland as there doesn't seem to be any super unleaded and even the V power is 95 ron. I don't bother with it over here. Unless you're racing or for some reason you are running lower grade fuel on a map that requires higher octane (ie stitypeR not mapped for UK fuel), TBH I don't see any reason for putting it in.

I must add, I'm far from an expert on this!

Octane booster can be a good idea for track use but I fail to see it's place on the road unless your car is tuned for a lower octane fuel as you just mentioned. For example if you have a 99/00 STi running OEM management it will run on V-power but any lesser fuel will require an octane booster and maybe for piece of mind you run it anyway.

So why does everyone else run it?

I suppose for some it's a belt and braces approach. Does seem an expensive option though given the prices quoted above.

Thank you Zak I see I'm not the only one who wants to know something so simple

I admit I dont always use just once in a while, but was never sure why people used it just followed the flow. I know it does make you flame/sound better. But was not sure if actually did anything good........ I know I used to use something that was meant to clean the deposits in the engine which made it smoke for twenty minutes but this was not on a scooby

I must admit, i tend to only use it on track... not sure if there's any real benefit, although up until recently, i was running the original JAP eom map, so wus technicaly running a lower octane.

I Used to used silkolene pro boost everytime i tanked up ( 3 Capfulls per tank ) Do not seem to use it as often now though

Not really 100% to sure why i use it Cos everyone else was @ the time i suppose

When my car was mapped it was running optimax & pro boost , Pat advised to keep running optimax & pb as this was how it was mapped .

Think i kid myself when i feel the car go's better , Faster , When using PB I Guess it's all in the mind , BUT ... It does seem to pop & bang & aide the flamer kit when i do use it though

Placebo is a false entity, usually used in the medical fraternity where a group of patients are used for testing new drugs, half are given the real medicine, and the other half are given "make beleive" drugs called placebo to monitor the results
